 It’s a long way up for sailor Alex Thomson – and you’ve got to make sure your angles are spot on. These photos show him perching on the 30m (100ft) mast of his yacht as it lists at 60 degrees. Untroubled by the high-speed vessel whizzing along the Spanish coast, the 39-year-old Briton scales his way to the top – the height of a ten-storey building – before taking a plunge into the sea.  ‘There were lots of things that could have gone terribly wrong,’ said Mr Thomson, who became the youngest sailor to win a round-the-world race in 1998. ‘As it turned out, it was far more dangerous than I would ever have imagined.’ His stunt coordinator on the Hugo Boss yacht, Andy Bennett, said: ‘Every time the mast moves, Alex could lose his grip and plunge to the deck.’ A medical team was on hand while divers in a dinghy sailed alongside the yacht for safety.
