The fungi kingdom, akin to an entire minuscule galaxy awaiting exploration, beckons us with its mysteries. Beyond merely reveling in the array of fun shapes, sizes, colors, and tastes of mushrooms lies the enduring fascination possessed by many mushroom enthusiasts. Long recognized by ancient cultures for their medicinal properties, cognitive enhancements, and myriad health benefits, fungi's secrets are gradually seeping into mainstream awareness. Venturing into the deep wet woods of Midcoast Maine and nearby Providence Rhode Island, Holly Waxwing and Galen Tipton, both passionate about mushrooms and accomplished producers and sound designers, seek to translate this fungi love into sound. At its core, Soundscapes: Mushrooms is a testament to a profound adoration for mushrooms, coupled with an endeavor to faithfully transmute the visual into the auditory realm. What symphony does a Red Russula mushroom authentically resonate? The stem fractures like chalk, the gills crisp and papery, yet visually, these mushrooms emit a blushy red glow. Holly and Galen endeavor to amalgamate all these visual nuances into an auditory tapestry for each species. The majority of these sounds were captured utilizing a DPA 5100 surround mic connected to a sound devices recorder. In addition, a Rode NTG5 shotgun mic, a RODE NT1000, and a Lom Geofon were employed to capture subterranean sounds.
