Both belong to the group NEWS while Uchi also belongs to the current high-rising group Kanjani8. Following Kusano's suspension in April 2006, NEWS' activities were also suspended as a group. Both were caught drinking underage before suspension; Uchi was 18 in July 2005 while Kusano was 17 in April 2006.
Both however will not pursue with NEWS and Kanjani8's activities for the moment, and such, NEWS will regroup as a 6-members unit beginning 31 December 2006 in the Johnny's Countdown Concert 2006-2007.

In the mean time, Kanjani8's popularity is expanding even more with the group's first ever dome concert on 25th February 2007 back in their hometown at Osaka Dome. The dome can hold 60,000-70,000 fans, almost as big as Tokyo Dome which has a capacity of 80,000. Balloting for tickets are expected to go on sale by January, although there's no confirmation yet on how many shows the group will hold on that day. However, at least 50,000 fans from all over the country (and outside of Japan) are expected to turn up for every show, following two very successful nationwide tours in September/October and December last year.
The group has had a sell-out tour where 7 shows were added to the initial 23 shows in September/October, totalling 36 shows in 11 cities. Another sell-out tour followed in December where 4 shows were added to the initial 16 shows, totalling 20 shows in 6 cities. The overall nationwide tour ended in Yokohama Arena which holds 17,000 fans, their biggest venue yet, until Osaka Dome in February 2007.

It opens in Japan on January 13.

The group went on a sabbatical last April after two separate incidents in which members Uchi Hiroki (20) and Kusano Hironori (18) were caught for underage drinking and "demoted" to "trainee" status. The former 9-member group is now down to six (Moriuchi Takahiro quit in 2003), and they made a long-awaited comeback appearance at the Johnny's Countdown on New Year's Eve. Over 200 reporters packed a press conference yesterday to hear them talk about their plans for the future and their relationship with the disgraced two former members. They are to release their 7th single, "Hoshi wo Meza#e", and will start a 19-date concert tour at the Yokohama Arena on February 17.

They have recorded a commemorative single, "Bokura ga Ikiru, My Asia", which will also be the theme tune of the upcoming Cirque du Soleil show "Dralion". The name is a combination of the Eastern dragon and the Western lion, and the tune is described by Hello! Project founder and producer Tsunku (38) as a reflection of that east-meets-west theme. The show opens on February 7 and other celebrity supporters enlisted to promote it include comediennes Hisamoto Masami and Shibata Rie, newscaster Ogura Tomoaki, and Olympic ice skating gold medalist Arakawa Shizuka. The public broadcaster has received some 1,800 complaints from viewers about the "naked" performance of Ozma and his dancers on Kohaku last New Year's Eve. The network has apologized, as have Ozma's label, Toshiba EMI. But NHK are determined that there will be no repeat of such a "surprise attack" on future shows. Ozma appeared on NHK music shows a total of eight times last year, but is unlikely to be seen on the network again anytime soon as he has been resolutely unapologetic for the incident. In future, according to Hashimoto, verbal agreements will be replaced with written contracts that clearly forbid unsuitable performances. There are also plans for a new manual on how to change camera angles during a live broadcast. On a related note, three U.S. stations in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Hawaii broadcast an edited version of the show.
