CARRIE STEELE, 53, merupakan seorang penghidap kanser yang sanggup berbuat apa sahaja. Menurut rakannya, dia pernah melakukan beberapa perkara pelik sejak dahulu lagi tetapi kali ini gelagatnya sedikit pelik bagi manusia normal kerana bertentangan dengan norma alam.
Wanita pertengahan umur dari Colorado Springs, Amerika Syarikat ini bertindak meminum air kencingnya sendiri sejak empat tahun lalu. Carrie akan meminum sebanyak lima gelas air kencing sendiri setiap hari dan dia menyifatkan perbuatannya itu sebagai menenangkan.
Menurutnya, dia tidak mengalami sebarang alahan apabila pertama kali bertindak meminum air kencingnya. Carrie cuba mencabar diri kerana berasakan dia boleh melakukan perkara itu.
Ibu kepada empat orang anak ini disahkan menghidap kanser melanoma malignan peringkat ketiga lapan tahun lalu. Sejak itu dia berbuat apa sahaja termasuk meminum air kencingnya sendiri dengan harapan ia dapat membantunya melawan hukuman maut itu.
"Pelbagai jenis perasa yang saya dapati apabila meminum air kencing. Semuanya bergantung kepada makanan yang saya ambil. Ia tidak berbau dan rasanya berbeza berbanding empat tahun lalu.
"Kadangkala saya rasa masin dan adakalanya ia rasa seperti air lemon tetapi itu semua bergantung kepada apa yang saya makan. Saya juga dapat merasai pelbagai rasa makanan yang keluar dari badan saya melalui rasa air kencing saya itu.
"Saya gemarkan asparagus tetapi saya tidak akan memakannya lagi kerana ia membuatkan air kencing saya rasa sangat pelik," ujarnya.
Tambahnya, dia bukan sahaja meminum air kencingnya tetapi dia juga menggunakan air kencingnya itu untuk berkumur dan memberus giginya selain menjadikan air kencingnya itu sebagai minyak yang disapukan di seluruh badannya.
"Saya mendedahkan tabiat pelik saya ini bersama rakan, Denise dan dia kelihatan tenang apabila saya memberitahu rahsia itu. Saya minum hampir semua air kencing yang keluar dari badan saya.
"Apabila saya menjemputnya untuk melihat sendiri kebenarannya, Denise mengelak dan dia percaya dengan apa sahaja yang ceritakan tentang tabiat pelik itu tetapi dia tidak berhasrat untuk melihat sendiri saya meminum air kencing saya," jelasnya.
Salah seorang anak perempuannya pula memberitahu, air kencing merupakan bahan buangan daripada badan dan ia bahan yang tidak lagi diingini. Tubuh menyingkirkan segala kotoran tidak sihat kepada badan selain ia pernah digunakan untuk tujuan perubatan oleh manusia pada Tamadun China dan India.
Bagaimanapun, dalam laporan The Independent pada tahun 2006, pakar-pakar perubatan menafikan dakwaan air kencing boleh membantu dalam proses penyembuhan dan tiada bukti yang menyokong dakwaan itu.
Sementara itu, seorang pakar pemakanan di Universiti Southampton, Britain, Dr. Michael Stroud memberitahu, dakwaan sesetengah orang yang menyatakan air kencing dapat menyembuhkan penyakit adalah sebagai mengarut dan tidak boleh dipercayai.
