Jang Ok Jung Lives as Never Before on ONE
Malaysia,24 April 2013 –Korean history’s most well known royal concubine, Jang Huibin, isinfamous for her ruthless pursuit of power. In fact, the Joseondynasty femme fatale has been brought to life in nine differentadaptations of her real life story which allege that she resorted tovoodoo-like rituals to invoke death upon the reigning Queen Inhyeonand ill-treated her own son. Yet, the most interesting adaptationwith a truly unique perspective of Jang comes to us in this latestKorean drama series that is titled after the concubine’s birthname, JangOk Jung.
Premieringon 6 May and airing on Mondays and Tuesdays at 8.55pm first andexclusively on ONE, JangOk Jungsets itself apart from previous works by adapting the Korean novel‘Jang Ok Jung, Live for Love’ by Choi Jung Mi. It downplays thepolitical intrigue surrounding Jang and tells the story of her giftfor fashion design and cosmetics of her time, as she ascends frombeing a seamstress in the palace to the very top of the Korean courtas the King’s love.
In JangOk Jung,Jang is set to struggle against the stifling caste system of 17thcentury Korea.It will also trace the romantic relationship between King Sukjong andJang, amidst the rivalry amongst the Queen and concubines for themonarch’s affections.
Jang OkJungfeatures actress-model Kim Tae Hee (Stairwayto Heaven, Love Story in Havard)in her first role in a period drama as Jang. The 33 year old, oncedubbed ‘South Korea’s most beautiful woman’ by the media, isthe perfect candidate to play the historical figure of Jang Huibinwho was considered the most beautiful woman of the Joseon dynasty.She caught the eye of King Sukjong who made her his concubine andeventually Queen, and even bore him a son, Gyeongjong, to succeed thethrone.
Starringopposite Kim is Yoo Ah In (FashionKing, Punch)who plays acharismatic and romantic King Sukjong, which is a departure from thehistorically indecisive and weak monarch of past adaptations. Nostranger to period dramas, JangOk Jung isthe third series the 27 year old has taken on in his career thus far.Historically, King Sukjong was younger than Jang, and with Kim beingsix years older than Yoo, the two lead roles are perfectly andrealistically cast, as intended by the series producers.
Fans of female K-pop group‘KARA’ can look out for Han Seung-yeon in her role as Choi SukBin, rival concubine and mother of young future king Yeong-jo. Alsomembers of the key cast are Hong Soo Hyun (SalarymanCho Han Ji)as Queen Inhyeon and Jae Hee (WitchYoo Hee, Delightful Girl Choon-Hyang)plays Hyun Chi Soo, Jang’s first love that is determined to win herback.
Helmed by director BooSung-cheol of MyGirlfriend is Gumihoand Star’sLover fame,production of JangOk Jungcommenced in early March 2013, initially at the Hwaseong HaenggungPalace in Suwon, South Korea. OVERVIEW
The drama follows thelife of the famous royal concubine of the Joseon Dynasty, Lady JangHui Bin, who is also known as Jang Ok-Jung (Kim Tae Hee), before shewas sentenced to death. dia terus teringat yg OJ pernah borak2 kan dgn king....smpi dia tanya...rapat ke dgn king tu..
pada hal OJ tk tau sapa lelaki tu.....ingatkan hanya panglima tentera jer...
