LFC: We're praying for Fabrice

Liverpool Football Club has tonight issued a message of support to Fabrice Muamba, the Bolton Wanderers midfielder, who collapsed during the FA Cup quarter-final tie against Tottenham on Saturday evening.

The England U21 international, who played in both ties against Liverpool for Bolton this season, left the field on a stretcher after six medics spent 10 minutes trying to resuscitate him. He had earlier collapsed to the ground with no one else around him.

The match was abandoned after the 23-year-old was rushed to hospital in London and at 9.30pm tonight the following statement was released: "Bolton Wanderers can confirm that Fabrice Muamba has been admitted to The Heart Attack Centre at The London Chest Hospital where he is in a critically ill condition in intensive care. No further information will be issued at this stage. The club and hospital request that the media and public respect the family's privacy at this time."

Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre told Liverpoolfc.tv: "The thoughts of everyone at this football club are with Fabrice, his family, friends and teammates. Everyone who was watching the game was shocked and upset by the scenes on the pitch and we all hope he can pull through this terrible ordeal.

"We're all praying for him tonight."

Daily Mail: KD gives strikers a Stevie G up

Kenny Dalglish has challenged his squad to follow Steven Gerrard's ruthless example as he looks to secure Liverpool's second trip to Wembley in two months.

Having endured a season when progress has at times been checked by a lacking of a cutting edge, Dalglish was elated to see things finally fall into place on Tuesday when Gerrard scored all the goals in a 3-0 win over Everton.

Liverpool's attack has struggled in the Barclays Premier League since the turn of the year but Dalglish does not feel one impressive performance means their troubles are over and wants to see others take the burden off his captain against Stoke.

When the sides last met in January, Tony Pulis' side snuffed out Liverpool's attack and Dalglish is well aware of the threat Stoke pose to his ambitions of adding the FA Cup to their Carling Cup win.

'The first thing to do is create the chances, the second is to believe we are good enough finish them off and the third thing is to put them away,' said Dalglish. 'You can go out in training and everything is fine and then you go into the match and there is nothing going in.

'We'll keep pushing ourselves forward and asking the question how to solve it. If we need two chances to get one goal, then fine. I didn't think we took all the chances we made because we still made a lot of chances, but you couldn't have asked for any more (from Gerrard).'

This is Liverpool's first appearance in the quarter-finals since they last won the FA Cup in 2006 and the significance of completing a domestic cup double has not been lost on Dalglish.

'The FA Cup was lost for a long time here,' he said. 'It was Shanks's first trophy (in 1965) that set the club rolling and that's where the momentum started to build. The FA Cup set this club on a path.'

Givemefootball.com: Cavani and Lavezzi are targets

Liverpool have reportedly been keeping a close eye on the progress of potent Napoli duo Edinson Cavani and Ezequiel Lavezzi.

Cavani has been in particularly flowing form in front of goal this season, netting 24 times in 34 Serie A appearances, while Lavezzi has scored ten goals in the league this term.

Unsurprisingly, the forward pair have been frequently linked with respective big-money moves away from Naples and now, it would appear, Liverpool have entered the race to sign them.

According to Setanta Sports, Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish watched Napoli face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, with the purpose of running the rule over Cavani and Lavezzi.

Whether or not Liverpool decided to formalise their supposed interest in Napoli's strikeforce remains to be seen, but the completion of any deal would be a significant coup for Dalglish.

Napoli are, of course, at loath to sell their prized assets, but are likely to see their resolve tested during the summer transfer window.

Sportsnewsireland.com: Berbatov in Liverpool link

Many commentators have said that Dimitar Berbatov would be the perfect foil for Liverpool's Luis Suarez.

Now that the Bulgarian appears all but certain to leave Manchester United in the summer it looks as if Liverpool could be set to make a bid for the want away striker.

Last season Berbatov was the English Premier League's top goalscorer with 21 goals. Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has rewarded the 31 year-old by leaving him on the bench for big chunks of the current campaign with the former Tottenham man having only played 18 games this season.

Ferguson said in a press conference this week: "His (Berbatov's) concern is not getting first team football. It is difficult for me to guarantee him that, so it could lead to him looking elsewhere, and, having had chats with him, I understand that he wants to get first team football."

Ferguson confirmed the 31-year-old's probable departure on the eve of a last-16 Europa League second leg tie with Athletic Bilbao telling reporters 'His concern is not getting first-team football.'

He said: "At 31, he is looking at first-team football.

"It is difficult for me to guarantee that so it could lead to him looking elsewhere."

Berbatov's contract was set to expire in the summer at which point he would have been available for free however rather than let the player leave for nothing United will trigger a clause to extend the deal for a further year, all of which means that United will get a fee for Berbatov.

"We will be taking up the option on his contract but, having had chats with him, I understand he wants to get first-team football," added Ferguson.

"It is something we need to consider at the end of the season. For a player of his age and his ability it is disappointing for him that he is not getting first-team football.

"We will look at the end of the season but until then, he remains at United."

'Crouch is special – we missed him'

Dirk Kuyt has labelled Stoke City's top scorer Peter Crouch a 'special player' - and admits he was missed both on and off the pitch following his departure from Liverpool in 2008.

The pair will be reunited when the Potters visit Anfield on Sunday to compete for a place in the FA Cup semi-finals.

Crouch scored 42 goals during 134 appearances for the Reds between 2005 and 2008 before being sold to Portsmouth.

Kuyt believes the 6ft 7in striker was a loss in the seasons that immediately followed.

He told Liverpoolfc.tv: "It was great to play with him. He was a great player here, he scored some great goals, and he was also a great lad in the dressing room and outside the training ground.

"We had lots of fun with him, he was a good dancer!

"We missed him a bit after he went but he has done really well for all the clubs he has played for, and now he's doing it again with Stoke.

"He is very strong in the air but, especially when he was here, he was very good with his feet as well. Peter is a special player."

An encounter with Stoke brings with it unique challenges - and whatever anyone says about their style of play, Kuyt has respect for the job done by Tony Pulis.

"The Premier League is about the physical game," said the Dutchman. "There is a lot of quality but physically it's also one of the toughest leagues.

"You know what it's about and we know what Stoke City are about. They've got a good team and physically they're one of the strongest teams in the league.

"I was not used to playing against these types of teams in Holland. I've never played anywhere else in the world but I've never played against another team in Europe who play like that.

"But they're doing well, they're getting results and if you see what they have achieved over the last couple of years, it's impressive.

"It's always tough against Stoke."

‘Kami yakin’

LIVERPOOL: Dirk Kuyt percaya Liverpool masih mempunyai potensi yang belum ditemui ketika mereka bersedia dalam misi memburu gelaran berganda dengan pertemuan suku akhir Piala FA menentang Stoke.

Skuad Kenny Dalglish menamatkan badi enam tahun tanpa sebarang trofi apabila menewaskan pasukan Championship, Cardiff menerusi penalti di final Piala Liga bulan lalu.

-AFP

Reds eye Napoli duo

Reds boss Kenny Dalglish was expected at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night apparently watching Edison Cavani and Ezequiel Lavezzi.

The Napoli front duo are wanted by a host of clubs and there were plenty of watching scouts in attendance to see the pair in action against Chelsea on Wednesday.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has made it very clear he has no intention of selling either or both of his star turns but at the same time he says if anyone comes up with a whopping £100m he will sell.

“Right now everyone wants Cavani and Lavezzi but we are not looking to sell,” De Laurentiis said.”We are not using our players for the transfer market.

“But if some crazy guy wants to put down £100million, then, maybe.”

Uruguayan striker Cavani is supposedly the main target for Dalglish who is looking to add to his misfiring front line, the 25-year-old having netted 16 goals in just 25 games for Napoli this season.

Reds returning to Wembley

A sensational strike from Luis Suarez helped Liverpool book a place in the FA Cup semi-finals.

The Reds beat Stoke City 2-1 at Anfield, with Stewart Downing netting the winner after a controversial Peter Crouch goal cancelled out the stunning opener.

A trip to Wembley is the prize for Liverpool less than a month after they triumphed there in the Carling Cup final.

The game got underway following a round of applause in support of Bolton midfielder Fabrice Muamba as he receives treatment in hospital.

Kenny Dalglish made just one change to the team that beat Everton 3-0 on Tuesday, Maxi Rodriguez replacing Jordan Henderson. And it was the Argentine who mustered the first attempt on goal after three minutes, nodding marginally over the crossbar from a Steven Gerrard free-kick.

Stoke responded with lofted passes to top scorer Crouch, and though most of his headers were won, Liverpool were usually smart to the second ball.

The match was developing into a nondescript encounter until 23 minutes, when Suarez received possession midway inside the Stoke half. The No.7 found Maxi, who returned the pass first time before watching Suarez control and then thunder into the bottom corner from 20 yards.

It was irresistible stuff, but three minutes later Liverpool had to start over. Crouch, left free inside the box, headed the leveller, but it was the decision by referee Kevin Friend to award a corner in the first place that prompted uproar in the stands. Pepe Reina was booked for his protests, though television replays proved the Spaniard correct: it had been Stoke defender Ryan Shawcross who directed the ball out of play.

Liverpool surged, Andy Carroll volleying acrobatically into the Kop from a Jay Spearing cross. The contest was now alive. For Stoke, Jonathan Walter sprinted down the right but failed to test Reina with his strike.

Charlie Adam's Absence from the Liverpool Team Continues to Benefit the Reds

For the second game running, Charlie Adam was left on the substitutes' bench by Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish, with Jay Spearing partnering Steven Gerrard in the middle.

While Spearing might not be every Reds fans' first choice for central midfield, there can be no doubting the fact that he complements Gerrard better than Adam and, more importantly, lets Liverpool play at a far better tempo than Adam does.

Adam is far from a bad player, but he is not the one that Liverpool need, as discussed here.

But with Liverpool in winning form without him in midfield now, there is every chance the Scottish midfielder will struggle to get his place back in the side for the season's run-in—and perhaps even beyond, especially with the Reds likely to strengthen further in the summer and the imminent return of Lucas Leiva from injury.
