Jan 7, 2019 Daily Sports article translation[The 33rd GDA] “2 weeks of production, message of justice · transcendence”.. How BTS (@BTS_twt) stage with Haetae was born
Translated by @BTSARMY_Salon (Twitter) BTS presented a ‘legendary’ stage at GDA. On Jan 6th at the 33rd GDA, BTS performed ‘FAKE LOVE’ and ‘IDOL’. They grabbed attention with ‘FAKE LOVE’ at first and proved themselves as ‘the best idol of the time’ with the charismatic ‘IDOL’ stage. Particularly, a gigantic Haetae statue (length 10m, width 4m, height 4m) which BTS rode at the ‘IDOL’ stage received compliments from fans, and it has been a hot topic online even after the performance ended. All members rode on top of the 1.5ton statue, moved 50m to the front stage. BTS got off the statue and created the legendary stage with fantastic performance dancing with 100 dancers who filled the entire stage. Other artists at the arist’s seat were also in awe. It took 2 weeks to create the BTS’ Haetae stage. Director Yoon Jinhee of JTBC Broadcast Art team who planned the stage said, “It took 2 weeks only to creat the Haetae statue. After sculpting special stryoform, we placed safety bars and handles to enhance safety, and finished with flame retardant. We considered safety when we designed the placement and height of stairs. Artists’ safety was the priority.” Director Yoo Wonsang who was in charge of staging said, “We adjusted multiple times to make the Haetae come out safely to the front stage with power by stationing rails on the stage. We did our best to create the stage as close as possible to fans and safe at the same time. Even after the whole stage was made, we checked its safety dozens of times for two days while doing the system rehearsal.”
The scale of BTS stage was not only the one that was big and surprising. It also contained meaningful messages. It expressed power and message of music that transcend justice, generations • eras • languages • nationalities • races • religions. Haetae is an imaginary animal which can judge right and wrong, and good and evil. The production team was inspired by BTS’ path from the past until now. Director Yoon said, “We thought BTS’ musical path, that BTS move forward righteously in any circumstances and actively do music, and the meaning of Haetae fit each other. Also, BTS reminded of the Haetae statue as they protect fans by comforting and energizing them with music. To portray BTS’ global status and path, we planned the members to ride the Haetae and move forward to the front stage.” [color=rgb(51, 51, 51) !important]
The director added, “Through prism and light penetrating the venue, we protrayed infinite power of music expanding endlessly without any boundaries or limits. The stage visualized musical influence and popularity of BTS which trescend language, age and race.”
