INTER VICTORIOUS IN BRUSSELS
Wednesday, 29 September 2004 22:45:01

BRUSSELS - It's two wins out of two in the Uefa Champions League as the Nerazzurri beat Anderlecht 3-1 at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium on Wednesday.

Inter made a promising start to the Matchday 2 clash, Obafemi Martins shooting wide of the far post after pouncing on a loose ball. The Nigerian made no mistake with his second chance, sliding his third in two games past Peersman from close range after Adriano took on two opponents then crossed into the six-yard box.

In a see-saw first half, Inter might have increased their lead, with the front men, Emre and Burdisso all presented with good chances.

Inter took the upper hand soon after the restart, Adriano heading his ninth of the season from an Emre corner. Dejan Stankovic made the result safe minutes later with a blistering long-range shot after good work on the right by Veron and Adriano.

After the Serbia&Montenegro's fourth goal of 2004/05, the Nerazzurri sat on their lead and watched Anderlecht waste chance after chance until deep into injury time when substitute Baseggio found the top left-hand corner with a shot from inside the box.

The convincing victory sees Inter lead Group G on six points, with Valencia beaten 2-1 by Werder Bremen at the Weserstadion.

MANCINI: "WE PLAYED VERY WELL"
Wednesday, 29 September 2004 22:52:45

BRUSSELS - "We played a very good match. The boys played very well. We could have scored more in the first half, but it's important that the team moved well and played a good game," said Roberto Mancini about Inter performance in the 3-1 victory over Anderlecht in Matchday 2 of the Uefa Champions League.

Mancini added: "Compared with Sunday there were a few changes because of tiredness, but the game situations are always the same. It was important to win today. The last goal? We gifted it to them."

Nice statement by Mancio.:bgrin:

:ah:

Aku harap Mancini lebih bijak membuat pilihan untuk masa yang akan datang.

Gandingan Cordoba dengan Burdisso memang berkesan.Mancio, please stop playing Materazzi.

Gandingan Adriano dengan Martins memang perfect.Mancio,Vieri needs a long rest.

It's sad that one of the best in the world could end up just like this.

I think it's time for Vieri to leave Inter.Mungkin ke EPL atau La Liga.Main untuk team pertengahan  berpotensi macam Bolton atau Athletico Madrid.Dengan itu mungkin Vieri boleh mendapatkan form yang dah lama hilang tue.

Serie A Preview: Roma-Inter
10/2/2004 10:17:00 AM
Inter travel to lowly Roma in a crunch match for both teams in order to get their seasons moving forward in Serie A.

BACKGROUND

Inter come off a fantastic away victory in Belgium where both Adriano and Martins were able to score. This season has been a complete difference from a couple of years ago where Cuper held a solid defence, but at the expense of an attacking side. Mancini has managed to transform Inter into an enjoyable team to watch with many classy individuals, but so far the defence has been the problem for the Nerazzuri in Serie A having conceded seven goals in the first four games.

Nothing currently can get worse than Roma’s defence. The Giallorossi have somehow managed to transform a defence from conceding just nineteen in thirty four goals last season into one that has conceded nine in the first four of this season. Not to mention conceding four in the week against Real Madrid, which now leaves their Champions League hopes in the balance.

It will be Del Neri’s first match in charge of the Giallorossi and even though he is not expected to perform miracles in his first match in charge, he will need to show that there is spirit and togetherness in the Roma side which can take them forward for the rest of this season

Despite the defensive frailties, both teams have been exciting to watch and have been scoring goals. This could well be another match for Roma where they concede more than they score, but the fans will be hoping fortunes will change in the defence and that they can get their first win since the opening day against Fiorentina. Inter themselves have only won one match in Serie A but you get the feeling that once the defence gets a bit tighter they can make a real challenge for the scudetto.

This weekend will be a vital match for Inter in the race to win Serie A. If they can beat Roma at the Olimpico they will once again catch up to both Milan and Juventus, but a slip up and they could find themselves even below Roma who are supposedly in crisis. Mancini will know that the real danger of Roma comes from their attack of Totti and Cassano so Inter will give themselves every chance of winning if they keep the two front men silent and starved of possession.

TEAM NEWS

Roma

Mido has recovered from an injury picked up in training but should be starting on the bench. Del Neri is expected to pick a 4-2-3-1 like formation that can involve the Totti, Cassano and Montella. Ferrari is expected to be back in the side, but Chivu and D’Agostino remain on the sidelines.

Inter

Favalli is a doubt while Emre, Kili and Mihaijlovic will be missing. Martins should start ahead of Vieri in attack to partner Adriano after his midweek performance. Burdisso is expected to start once more also.

PROBABLE LINE-UPS

Roma: (4-2-3-1) Pelizzoli; Panucci, Mexes, Ferrari, Cufre; Perrotta, Dacourt; Mancini, Totti, Cassano; Montella

Inter: (4-4-2) Toldo; J. Zanetti, Burdisso, Cordoba, Pasquale; Van Der Meyde, Veron, Davids, Stankovic; Martins, Adriano

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Francesco Totti: With all the praise heaped on to the captain it will be important that he shows Del Neri he has the heart and the power to guide Roma out of these troubled times.

Adriano: Once more if a team can stop Adriano, they have a good chance of stopping Inter’s goal threat. It is harsh on the likes of Obafemi Martins, Stankovic and Veron, but if Adriano is kept quiet Inter will not be as lethal. The only problem is what does it take to keep Adriano away from the danger zone?

Madness in Rome (Roma 3 Inter 3)

HONOURS EVEN IN ROME
Sunday, 03 October 2004 22:39:15

ROME - Roma and Inter played out a spectacular 3-3 draw at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday evening. Ninety breathtaking minutes of end-to-end football saw two Argentine midfielders open their scoring accounts for the Nerazzurri.

After a bright start to the match, the Giallorossi took the lead on nine minutes. A.Mancini's right-wing cross fell to Vincenzo Montella, who controlled with his chest then smashed home at the far post.

Roberto Mancini was forced to make a tactical switch just before half time, bringing on Edgar Davids for an injured Obafemi Martins, who failed to reccover from a crunching De Rossi tackle. Inter's equaliser couldn't have come at a better moment, Esteban Cambiasso scoring his first Nerazzurri goal in additional time. Unmarked in the middle of the Roma box, the Argentine midfielder jumped to meet Recoba's pin-point left-wing cross and power a header past Pelizzoli.

A perfect start to the second half saw Veron and Recoba open up a two-goal lead for Inter. On 51 minutes the Argentine's volley from El Chino's corner took a deflection off Mexes, giving Pelizzoli no chance of repositioning. Three minutes after Veron's first goal in black and blue the Uruguayan raced past Mexes before sending a powerful left-footed shot into the top left-hand corner.

Roma reduced the deficit soon after when Totti made it a century of Serie A goals with a majestic 30-yard free kick, then Daniele De Rossi equalised with fifteen minutes left to play, stabbing home from close range after Dellas headed Totti's free kick back across the area.

Inter went close to a winner in a frenetic finale. Adriano sent a blistering long-range free kick just over the Roma crossbar, then in time added on Burdisso received inside the Giallorossi box from Cristiano Zanetti, but couldn't get a shot in.

ROMA 3-3 INTER (HT: 1-1)

Scorers: Montella 9, Cambiasso 45+1, Veron 51, Recoba 54, Totti 57, De Rossi 74

ROMA: 22 Pelizzoli, 2 Panucci (31 Dellas 46), 4 De Rossi, 5 Mexes, 8 Ferrari, 9 Montella (15 Dacourt 71), 10 Totti, 18 Cassano (99 Mido 62), 20 Perrotta, 25 Cufr
