India Samvad Bureau

New Delhi, Feb 4: An obscure Mullah from Delhi, who was previously close to the RSS has moved writ petitions to the Delhi High Court, asking the courts to intervene and halt all future episodes of the hugely popular new TV series ‘Fatah Ka Fatwa’ that airs on Saturday and Sunday nights on ZeeNews.

Maulana Ansar Raza who heads the ‘Gareeb Nawaz Foundation’ NGO filed a PIL on January 25th asking the courts to seize all material related to ‘Fatah Ka Fatwa’ from the premises of ZeeNews, alleging that the show’s host Tarek Fatah “abuse literally the majority of the country citizen (sic) especially against the Hindu community which will spread riot like situation.”

‘Fatah Ka Fatwa’ first aired on Saturday, January 7, 2017, and was an immediate hit on the airways winning widespread applause from luminaries that included columnist Tavleen Singh, filmmakers Ashoke Pandit and Madhur Bhandarkar.

The show also started trending on Twitter and was being seen by Indian and Pakistani diasporas in the Gulf Arab States, Europe, and North America.

For the opening episode until the last one on the subject of Triple-Talaq, most of the guests have been Islamic clerics who at times have threatened Fatwas on the host Tarek Fatah and in one episode a mullah picked up Fatah’s walking stick to beat up a Muslim feminist.

In another episode, another Mullah told Fatah that he would take off shoes and beat the TV host all the way until he was expelled from India to which Fatah replied, “uttaarye na joota… kyoon nahin karte” (Please take off your shoe and start right now).

In another episode a Mufti slandered Tarek Fatah’s daughter, Toronto journalist Natasha Fatah, equating her to being of an ‘immoral character’ as Fatah sat back and simply smiled.

Maulana Ansar Raza who has previously praised the show and has appeared in two of programme’s episodes, alleges that host Tarek Fatah “always place misleading facts on the T.V. that Muslim ancient rulers rape Hindu girls and women and killed them massively (sic).”

In one show that has not aired yet, Maulana Ansar Raza declared Tarek Fatah to be a ‘Kafir’, an apostate, the punishment of which is beheading by any Muslim.

In his PIL writ petition, the Mullah from Mumbai asserts that in Fatah Ka Fatwa, host Tarek Fatah “provocate the people of the country and spread riot-like situation in the several places of the country (sic)…”

When asked if he had seen any of the shows that he was complaining about to the Supreme Court, Maulana Ansar Raza conceded that he had not seen any of the episodes, but was basing his complaint on what he heard from others.

In another twist, the Mumbai Mullah told the courts that host Tarek Fatah had a vested interest in the upcoming UP elections and that Fatah “wants that there must be riots to be broken and which will give the benefit to the some of the political parties afterward (sic).”

Its is pertinent to point out that Maulana Ansar Raza is a frequent guest on ZeeNews and on one debate he proudly proclaimed that Arab invader of India Muhammad Bin Qasim was his hero, despite being made aware of the fact that Bin Qasim in 711AD abducted 20,000 Hindu girls from Sindh and who were later auctioned off in the Umayyad Caliphate’s capital of Damascus as sex slaves after killing the then Brahmin ruler of Sind, Raja Dahir who had given shelter to the progeny of Prophet Muhammad after they escaped persecution in Arabia at the hands of Muslims loyal to the Umayyad Caliphate of Islam.

On the same show, Maulana Ansar Raza proclaimed Mahmud Ghaznawi the 11th-century plunderer of Somnath Temple as his hero. He also declared the tyrant Mogul Emperor who destroyed the Kaashi Temple in Varanasi also as his saint and hero.

This discussion was in 2015 and coincidentally took place between Fatah Ka Fatwa host Tarek Fatah and the Mumbai Mullah.

In his writ petition, the Mumbai Mullah informs the court that Tarek Fatah is a supporter of gay rights and that both Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have banned him from entering their countries.

When asked for his reaction to these allegations, Tarek Fatah said, “I take pride in the fact that I have been banned from entering Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. If Maulana Ansar Raza needs the validation of his identity and ideology from Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, he is welcome to admire and respect such tyrant regimes and countries, one of which occupies sovereign Indian Territory of Gilgit-Baltistan and is waging a genocide on the predominantly Muslim population of occupied Balochistan.”

“He may be inspired by Arabia and Pakistan; I seek solace in my Mother India and my country of choice, Canada,” Fatah added.

In the writ petition, Maulana Ansar Raza claims, “…telecasting this programme [Fatah ka Fatwa] will definitely spoil the secular fabric of the country and it is a grave situation of concern and matter relate to National Security (sic).”

The court is yet to hear the PIL and no date is set yet. In the meantime, Fatah Ka Fatwa is growing in viewership with ZeeNews promoting it as the "most talked about show on News TV" and "Sachay Mussalman ka sub se achaa show, Fatah Ka Fatwa. It's also being promoted heavily with promos that say "The most viral show in India".
