Fatwa Question Details
Name Leith - Canada
Title What Does Islam Say about Organ Donation?
Question As-Salamu `Alaykum. What does Islam say about organ donation during life or after death. Is this allowed in Islam?
Date 04/Aug/2002
Mufti Muzammil Siddiqi
Topic Medicine
Answer
Wa`alaykum As-Salaamu Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh.
In The Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
Dear questioner, thank you very much for having confidence in us, and we hope our efforts, which are purely for Allah's Sake, meet your expectations.
In his response to the question, Dr. Muzammil Siddiqi, former president of the Islamic Society of North America, states the following:
揟his question is very much debated by the jurists in past two decades. The Supreme Council of `Ulama in Riyadh (in their resolution no. 99 dated 6 Dhul Qi'dah 1402) has allowed both organ donation and organ transplantation in the case of necessity.
The organ can be taken from the body of a living person with his/her consent and approval and also from the body of a dead person. In the case of a living person, the jurists have stipulated that this donation should not deprive him/her of vital organs. It should also not cause risk to his/her normal life.
The Fiqh Academy of the Muslim World League, Makkah also allowed organ donation and transplantation in its 8th session held between 28 Rabi'ul Thani- 7 Jumadal Ula, 1405.
The Fiqh Academy of the Organization of the Islamic Conference in Jeddah, during the year 1408, and the Mufti of Egypt Dr. Sayyed At-Tantawi also allowed the use of the body organs of a person who has died in an accident, if the necessity requires the use of any organ to cure a patient, provided that a competent and trustworthy Muslim physician makes this decision.
It is important to note that most of the jurists have only allowed the donation of the organs. They do not allow the sale of human organs. Their position is that the sale of human organs violates the rules of the dignity and honor of the human being, and so it would be haram in that case.
Some jurists suggest that because people have become too materialistic and it may not be possible to find a free organ, under necessity one can purchase the organs, but a Muslim should never sell his/her organs. |

in my case I would say, only know, when the moment asks for it...
now, I can state here that I'm willing to do them...but we can only
know when the situation warrants it...
but I hunch that I would maybe donate alive rather than when I'm dead...
maybeee... |

menderma organ ketika sara masih hidup mungkin akan sara lakukan utk insan2 yg hampir dgn sara.
tapi sara mmg menghormati ada seorg pemuda (lama dah kes nih, sara masih sekolah rendah lagi kot) yg rela mendermakan sebahagian buah pinggangnya utk kanak2 yg memerlukannya.
tujuan dan pengorbanannya sungguh suci dan murni. |

Let me give my answer:
i). For the religious:
What difference does it make if you're dead? U dont need the organ anyways. If your organ can help someone prolong his life, than just donate the organ. Why are we particular about our organ as if they belong to you. They belong to God, hence, if life could be prolonged, than it is necessary to donate. God would understand, He is God.
ii). For the Liberals
Look at this way, u are helping to help life live. I think we should make it compulsory to donate organs once the person is dead and have healthy organs for use by others. We need these organ to continue research on so many complications from heart disease to kidney failures. These need organs. Think of it as an advancement to human science.

maybe I'm being selfish or sumthin'...just feel like having my body
intact when I passed my time...well, u never know until the time
comes...so just like my colleague used to say humorously, "Wait
until the bus stops..."

kala cara betul ... kalau dah menyeleweng?
camna tu....
China haram jual organ
kegiatan penjualan organ manusia. |

Well...same as drugs. A Morphine injection for a dying cancer ridden man could reduce his suffering. Put it in a different light, using it excessively destroys a person.
