Motorcycle show comes to Kuala Lumpur

PETALING JAYA: ASIAN International Motorcycle Expo (AIME), which plans to make Malaysia the biggest motorcycle showground in the region, is targeted to attract 150,000 visitors to the show this year.   

Managing director Datuk Paduka Aiddie A. Ghazlan said AIME 2007 would showcase the latest development in motorcycle design and technology from around the world.   

Aiddie said in statement on Tuesday that AIME wants to make the motorcycle show an annual event in Malaysia.   "In the past our neighbuors, Thailand and Indonesia, have held over 50 events related to motorcycles and lifestyles, but sadly Malaysia has never held one," he said.   

Aiddie said presently there was no 'proper' motorcycle expo in Southeast Asia of international standing.   

"We believe AIME 2007 would be a good start to this cause and to create a single, purpose-built platform for the industry players like manufacturers and traders to showcase their latest technologies in motorcycles to end-users," he said.   "Futuristic concept bikes and custom vehicles will be unveiled by renowned automobile manufacturers at the show,'' said Aiddie.   

He said end-users also had the opportunity to compare the latest offerings under one roof.   Aiddie said: "In years to come we hope AIME would be Asia's premier motorcycle expo showcasing unique designs of motorcycles to attract industry players as well as motorcycle enthusiasts.   

Moreover, Aiddie said, the expo could help spur more tourism to this country if it was conducted professionally.   "We believe AIME 2007 will attract a lot of people as most five-star hotels are nearly fully book for the event. For instance, the 1,500 members of 3Nations Charity Riders and hundreds of local and foreign bike clubs have booked a date with us," he said.   

AIME 2007 will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from October 18 to 21.
