During the Ice Ages, there were mammals that are very familiar to us like deer, pack rats, and ground squirrels.
But there were also unusual mammals, most of them very large, that are now extinct.

Cave LionThe cave lion was one of the largest cats of all time.
A male could way up to 320 kg and a female could way up to 175 kg.
Some of the largest fossils found of the cave lion were nearly 3.5 m long!
The first cave lions walked the earth about 300,000 years ago and disappeared nearly 10,000 years ago .
They lived across Europe and Asia, from the UK all the way to the farthest reaches of Kazakhstan.
Woolly MammothThe last of the Great Woolly Mammoth populations vanished near the end of the last Ice Age over 4,000 years ago.
These incredible creatures carried tusks that could measure up to 15 feet long.
It lived in North America, Northern Europe and Siberia and lived on grasses, shrubs and other low-lying plant life.
With the decline in mammoths, birch forests, known for being high sunlight absorbers,
multiplied and helped melt away the Ice Age, taking the woolly mammoth with it.
