L. Suresh (picture) was charged yesterday with robbing a security guard at an automated teller machine at the AmBank branch in Taman Connaught, Cheras on Jan 2.

Suresh, 36, who is also a security guard with Safeguards Securicor, was alleged to have committed the robbery with two others, store keeper S. Morgan Rao, 36, and advertising company employee S. Thangaraj, 18.

The three were alleged to have pounced on the security guard who was collecting money from the ATM about 1.10pm.

They were armed with two knives and fled with RM158,815.

Suresh was arrested in Taman Semenyih Mewah several hours after the incident.

Morgan and Thangaraj were picked up in the same area the following day.

All three were charged before magistrate Tasnim Abu Bakar yesterday where they claimed trial. All three were not represented.

Prosecuting officer Chief Inspector Afandi Kasiman proposed bail at RM50,000 in one surety for each accused.

They, however, pleaded for a lower amount, claiming they had to support their families.

Tasnim granted them bail of RM7,000 each and fixed Feb 12 for mention.

Suresh had been working with Safeguards Securicor for more than two years.

He started his football career in 1990 with the Kuala Lumpur youth team and featured prominently in the city抯 M-League team after former coach Chow Kwai Lam converted him from an attacking midfielder to a striker.

He was with the Kuala Lumpur team from 1993 to 1996 and earned a national call-up for the 1995 Merdeka Tournament.

Suresh, however, did not play in that tournament after he and five of his teammates broke curfew and were seen partying at a nightclub several days before kick-off.

After that episode, he played for Perak in 1997 and after a couple of seasons, joined Sabah.

His contract with Sabah ended in 2003.

oh dia ni. memang penah main utk sabah gak, sekali dgn sanba, khairulazam semua tu. tapi dia ni main 1 season je tak silap kat sana.

masa main dgn kl tahun early/mid 90-an tu selalu gak dgr.. lepas tu jarang dgr (pasal aku pun da tak follow local football lepas tu)
