There are also strike aircraft whose purpose is to fly behind enemy lines, but not all the way, to disrupt supplies by striking at convoys, railroads, bridges and artillery. Technically this falls under the tactical bombers category, but generally strike aircraft have greater range and payloads. These aircraft can also be used as strategic bombers if necessary, as the F-117 demonstrated in the Iraq wars. The Panavia Tornado Mk.3, Jaguar, Su-24, F-117, F-111, F-15E strike eagle, F-7 corsair and some variants of the F-4 Phantom II fall into this category, or sub-category. |
