My take is the rocky outpost for the Royal Navy. Gibraltar. A fine place for British's 'old salts' messing around with the local lass and eating seafoods. An Archille's heel for the German Navy during the WW2.

gibraltar is named after a warrior,  Tariq bin Ziad and this gentleman actually had captured an are  of "hilly" region  in  that island which was then tagged as Jabal  Tariq. ( jabal = hill in arabic)
same goes with Mozambique = Moses bin Something
