Effective is the way we relate to the end result of specific task between individuals or groups.Effective communication means a person not only able to speak but also he/she would be able to listen. An effective football player not only has amazing skills to score goals, but he can also create chances to every one in the team to have the same opportunity. Effective husband not only act as a source of income for the family, but he also cooks, clean dishes, etc, etc. Effective student not only good in academic, but he is active in outdoor activities. Meanwhile efficient is the process of being effective, the methodology or tools that we use to ensure that the effectiveness being performed. |

Definitions
Effective - producing a powerful effect
Efficient - producing results with little wasted effort
comparisons
result vs. process
Example
Marina efficiently made the calls he had wanted to make. Maria didn't make the calls he had planned to make, but effectively met his sales quota by profiting from a chance encounter with a business acquaintance.
Key Point
When you're effective, you are able to accomplish the worthwhile goal you've chosen. When you're efficient, you quickly carry out actions. You won't be effective, however, unless those actions result in your achieving a meaningful goal.
Benefits
A hamster in a cage is efficient but not effective. Don't value efficiency over effectiveness. |

What is the difference between efficient and effective?
This is a very simple question but many of us take for granted..I must thank the guy who posted this question. I am going to answer it from the perspective of management Situational Leadership."Efficient" means having a high ratio of output to input; which means working or producing with a minimum of waste of time, human resource and materials For example, "An efficient project manager will deliver the project with minimum cost, time and materials. In warfare “A general manage to defeat the enemy and gain territorial ground with good battle plan with minimum loss of life.
"Effective", on the other hand, means producing or capable of producing an intended result, or having a striking effect. For example, "For rapid long-distance transportation, containerization of goods is more effective then loose cargo". Or, "For developing software test procedures, engineers specializing in software testing are more effective than engineers who are generalists". |

I'm afraid that your first define of efficient is productivity and the second explanation is efficient.

I stick to that definition because that's what Peter Drucker thought me in Stanford. |

Let’s us look the definition in terms of leadership
The best way a leader can determine their effectiveness is to take a vacation. If the subordinates are well trained, have been given the proper motivation, and are a part of an effective team, the organization should run smoothly without the leader's presence. Obviously this would not be a long-term vacation, as the leader is responsible for providing the vision for the organization.
An efficient leader is second rated like in the military he is a staff officer. He handles the operational planning with clock precision. He is smart, top of his class, energetic, and young but not effective enough for command post. |

You can be effective without being efficient.
e.g. You can get the the class to keep quiet but at the cost of 10 broken rulers to hit the table.
If you are efficient, you are also effective.
e.g. You explain the need for silence....just tell the students a very heart wrenching news for example, without banging rulers on the table. Taken in by the news the students remain quiet and still, pondering over the news.
Both achieve their goals but one at a minimum loss of quantifiable (10) resources (the ruler) |
