E-BOOK sales are set to surpass traditional print tomes in the UK by the year 2018, a new study has revealed.
According to a PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) report, the next four years will see consumer e-book sales almost triple in value to become worth £1billion (US$1.68 billion), reports the BBC.
The global financial company predicts that the rise in e-book sales will be partly due to half of the UK population owning an e-reader device such as Kindles by 2018.
And it isn't just books that are getting technical -- PwC's Global Entertainment And Media Outlook 2014-2018 report, published this week, also stated that digital newspaper payments are taking off, growing by 66.2% during 2013.
However, the report maintained that digital circulation will make up just 8% of total circulation revenue globally by 2018.
E-books have been growing in popularity over recent years, with Lonely Planet one of the latest publishers to announce a partnership with online service Scribd.
However, earlier this year Tim Waterstone, the founder of UK book retailer Waterstones, predicted that e-book sales would go into decline over the coming years. – AFP RELAXNEWS
