Synopsis
A meteor crashes into the desert of Sto. Sepulcro. Flavio, the panday of the community, forges a dagger and a churchbell from the remains of the meteor. He uses the dagger to fight off the Sombra Oscura, the minions of evil, who constantly attacks the town. By some mystical power, the dagger of Panday transforms into a great sword every time he wields it in defense of the people of Sto. Sepulcro.
In his final battle against evil, he Panday faces off against Lizardo, the son of the devil and the leader of the Sombras. The battle is intense, but, in the end, Panday is able to vanquish his mortal foe.
Having saved Sto. Sepulcro, Flavio decides to give up his sword. He goes to the church and casts his fabled weapon into the bell he also made. A white light then shoots out from the sky, and it lifts up Panday into the heavens.
The people of Sto. Sepulcro rejoice now that Panday has brought them peace. Unbeknownst to them, the Sombras discover that there is a part of Lizardo that is still alive - his brain.
In order to bring him back to life, they must transcend time and space to look for the girl who can resurrect their master.

The series followed a young woman named Tala, who accidentally unearths a crystal that contained the spirit of the legendary diwata sorceress, Luwalhati, who was imprisoned a hundred years earlier by a devilish being, Harimon. As a promise to Luwalhati, Tala agrees to help her rid the world of evil spirits that, once in the possession or contact of human beings, can bring or unleash corruption and mayhem onto the world.
Knowing that kind of fury would lead to Manila, where most of them would blend into the city's large population, Tala decides to leave her Madulom tribe to move into the area, where she would blend into the mix as a normal working girl, working at a shopping mall.
She would learn, however, that most of the spirits also have ties to Harimon, who was also set free by a young girl named Zorah. (Tala would later learn that she was her mother, who had abandoned her as a child after she became possessed by Harimon.) Upon learning that Harimon and his band of co-horts (The fierce Super Z, female vampire Kabagona, flamboyant drag queen Terracota and shapeshifter Luminax) have resurfaced to unleash and finish the sinister plans to unveil a more evil being bent on taking over the human world, Tala uses her crystal to transform herself into the superheroine Krystala and uses her powers to protect those who are helpless... and to protect the people who are her close friends.

Marina takes the viewer on a fairytale adventure over picturesque lands and even under the sea as we meet the mermaid Marina (Claudine Barretto). Marina was born as Cristina, the daughter of her human parents Esther (Snooky Serna) and Elias (Joel Torre). A normal child in all respects, Marina falls victim to a curse by Victoria (Cherie Gil), a sea deity masquerading as a normal woman who seeks her vengeance over Elias through Elias' daughter. Hoping that Victoria would lift her curse on the child if Elias comes back to her, Elias leaves Esther to raise Cristina alone.
When the curse becomes true and the child turns into a mermaid on her seventh birthday, Esther realizes that Cristina life would be in danger in their superstitious, parochial fishing village, where mermaids are believed to be unlucky. As such, Esther abandons Cristina in the sea, where the child learns to hate her mother. Eventually, Cristina is found by Istah (Sunshine Cruz), the beauteous queen of the mermaids. What destiny awaits the young mermaid under Istah's care? And will she ever long for the human life she left behind?

Teleserye is the local name of produced soap operas inthePhilippines,derived from the terms "tele" short for televisionandserye, ("series"). They can have different sub-genres; they couldbemelodramatic, fantasy themed (fantaserye), action (actionserye),musical (music-serye), or they could be be derived frommovies(sineserye).
Teleseryes are produced by the two main Philippine TV networksABS-CBN,which is Philippine's largest producer and exporter ofTeleseryes and,GMA Network,by the independent company TAPE Inc. and bythe movieproducer VIVA Entertainment.
History
Soap operas in the Philippines originated in radio, then itexpandedinto television in early 1960's. The first Filipino TV SoapOpera was"Hiwaga sa Bahay na Bato" in 1963 produced by ABS-CBN.
Soap operas in the Phillipines were usually shown during daytime.Amongthe most popular daytime soap operas then were, Gulong ngPalad,Annaluna, Mara Clara, Annaliza, Aguila and Valiente. But in 1996,soapopera programmimg was move to primetime due to the popularitygained bymexican Telenovela, Marimar, aired on RPN 9. This is the startoftelenovela craze in the Philippines.
ABS CBN made the first Filipino Telenovela on primetime, when itshiftthe timeslot of Mara Clara from it's daytime programmimg toprimetimeslot. This move was also followed by it's biggest competitorGMANetwork.
In 2000, ABS CBN, made a milestone in Philippine Telenovelas whenitintroduced "Pangako sa 'Yo", which was known to be the firstteleserye,and Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay". These teleseryes became a bighit in thePhilippines and likewise to other countries.
Again, in 2004 ABS-CBN introduced a new genre of teleserye whichmixessoap opera, fantasy, myth, magic and enchantment.This genre wascalledFantaserye. Marina was the first fantaserye.Today fantaseryes arethemost viewed TV program in the philippines. Recent surveys bymediaresearch firms AC Nielsen and AGB state that fantaseryes havethehighest ratings in the evening prime time block.
This coming 2007, teleserye and fantaserye production will againbechanged. ABS CBN will be introducing the first filipinoSci-fiteleserye which also incorporate anime genre.Rounin will be thefirstSci-fi-Anime teleserye in the history of Philippine television.
