Hyesung - 'Challenging against ROCK, the response is negative?’
Bringing along his music, singer, Shin Hyesung stands in front of the fans with excitement. Slowly, he divert his attention to ROCK and abandon his love for ballads that is well-received by everyone ever since. At the accompaniment of the loud roar, emit the exquisite singing voice of Shin Hyesung that coordinates a different flavor of the music. On the 10th day of the release of his 3rd album, the nervous Shin Hyesung who had invaded this ‘high risk district’ of ROCK expressed, “The responses seem petty good, it’s lucky as long there isn’t many negative comment.”
With his packed schedules, he suddenly caught a cold. Shin Hyesung who throat hasn’t completely recovered is sitting right opposite. ‘Charismatic 30 years old single man' revealed his work, love and dailies. A rough guideline that is intended to be use for the interview however this flow doesn’t go well. This is because in actual fact, there’s ‘NOTHING’ in Shin Hyesung’s dailies.
How do you catch the flu during the summer? I went to the Han River together with my friends a few days ago. I guessed I caught a cold after blowing too much of the breeze during the night. Because I have quit drinking, and there’s nothing better to do (laughs). However, I feel much better now after having a day of good rest.
How long have you quit drinking? Around 3 weeks (laughs) and this isn’t easy.
Comeback is not long before, you must be very concern about the fans’ responses. Did you get over concerned about everyone’s responses?
The response isn’t good? (laughs) it’s lucky as long as there isn’t many negative comment. In actual fact, usually I do not look at the replies or at those bulletin boards. Even for those few ‘artists related’ bulletin boards that are very famous, I’m only aware of them a few days ago. In regards to those responses, of course there're those that are negative but majority of them are giving assurance to my album therefore I’m very happy, particular liking those responses that ‘listen the album in details’.
What’s the opportunity that triggers you to use other styles to divert everyone’s attention?
I didn’t think of abandoning ballads completely therefore there isn’t any big opportunity to talk about. However, during that time when I am doing my 1st and 2nd solo, there should be a boring feeling? Everyone’s impression on me is ballad style, and majority of my songs are also sentimental ballads. During my 2nd album, I did think of whether should I try on other styles, however I still ended up with ballads.
So presently what you’re doing is actually what you really want to do?
Not really like this because ballads are what I always wanted to do since the beginning and till now this has never change. It’s just that now is the time for a slight adjustment and challenging against other styles, resulted my desire to produce even higher quality ballads.
If that’s so, why didn’t you start of as a ballad singer right from the beginning?
My standpoint isn’t that I can only ‘debut with selected style’. While I’m studying overseas, coincidentally there’s a competition going on. Its lonely being a foreign student and those once very good friends fantasize to become entertainers and so what to do? I might as well become one. Luckily, I can sing well and my friends always hang out with me. Certainly during that time, I was thinking ‘what kind of singer’, ‘oh, that’s ridiculous’. However, I went to the competition together with a close junior and shortly got selected.
So that’s SM that is trying to find members to form a DANCE group.
Yes, that’s right. In fact, I felt that life is tough during that time. I need to consider if I should give up my overseas studies and if I really return to Korea just like this, I might feel the huge void. Or, if I really become a singer, perhaps it’s a new start for me and so I stepped into the singer’s path.
You’re unable to get use to those members who are extrovert?
Luckily, I’m the first to enter the group and after started my practising by myself for around 2 weeks, Andy, Eric and other members started to join in and we have get along petty well too. However, I'm really bad in dancing therefore I received lots of scolding so it’s very tough. But still, the kids keep emphasizing that ‘Hyesung is the lead singer’ and this kind of atmosphere surrounding affirm my worth which makes me feel good.
Ballads are good and when producing Shinhwa’s music, there’s possibility of being bored too.
There’re many opportunity for me to do ballads, when I’m 21 during Shinhwa’s 2nd album, I have sing a ballad solo, ‘Forever in You’ and the lyric is written by me (laughs). And in group S together with Ji Hoon and Kangta, I have also sung many ballads.
Heard that you have encountered with difficulties when recording the song, “Because of You”.
It isn’t a style that is completely different but because it isn’t those kinds of ballads that I done before therefore it’s hard for me to balance it and generally I can only grasp the main point. There’re people who will think ‘It’s only a ballad singer singing rock’ and thus, I hope that everyone will know that I have put in lots of efforts on this area and that will do.
[08.09.03][news] IC members as daughters-in-law for Chuseok special
In order to appreciate the effort that housewives put into the Chuseok celebrations, MBC's Infinity Challenge will prepare for a daughters-in-law special.
The special will be aired on 13 Sept, just before Chuseok on 15 Sept, where the 6 members will turn into daughters-in-law preparing for the festivities. Yoo Jae Suk, Park Myung Soo, Jung Jun Ha, Jung Hyung Don and Junjin will gather with mothers-in-law and aunts to prepare food for the festival.
Right now though the costumes, food and props have not been confirmed, but it is sure to be an interesting episode to see the members (ranked accordingly by age) competing with one another, particularly Jung Hyung Don, known for his role as a bad husband on We Got Married, as well as new husbands Yoo Jae Suk and Park Myung Soo.
PD Kim Tae Ho said, "Every year when Chuseok comes around, the topic about festival stress for housewives comes up. We were just thinking of how best to go in depth to show the kind of stress they experience, thus we came up with this concept."
Casting for the mean mothers-in-law and difficult aunts is still underway.

Idol singer JunJin talked about Shinhwa with a strong affection and gratitude: "If it wasn't for Shinhwa, I would not have had today!"
Being asked about his huge popularity in Asia, JunJin said: "That was thanks to Shinhwa, since our 2nd jib, we have made a move in spreading our activities across Asia. For me, Shinhwa is love, Shinhwa loves me and I will always love them."
"Debuting as a solo singer after 10 years in Shinhwa was kind of burden for me. But since other members always support me, I feel more confident. That's the affection that I think I cannot find again in my life."
A lot of questions were raised by reporters about JunJin's current solo popularity to compare with with the "old days" in Shinhwa. JunJin, however, emphasized his gratitude: "The friendship we share is unusual. There's no rivalry among us."
Andy, another Shinhwa's member is going to hold an exclusive concert in 6 and 7 September. Towards Andy, JunJin said: "Andy, if you wish anything, then it will become true. You will have a great concert. Big cheers!"

Towards the question: "Are you aware that nowadays your popularity as singer JunJin is undisputable?", JunJin answered modestly: "Honestly I don't really know about that. Recently, I went to HongDae with my "daughters" for a broadcasting program and I was really shocked by the crowd."
