Valencia's Sporting VP Resigns
The latest head to roll at the Mestalla is that of vice-president of sports Rafael Salom, who has resigned due to health reasons...
Salom follows in the footsteps of former president and current majority shareholder Juan Soler, who also stepped down due to illness.
The VP has taken the unusual step of terming his resignation as "irrevocable," bringing to an end his association with the inner sanctum of the club, one that has lasted less than one year.
Salom was originally seem very much as one of Soler's men, but Marca claims that the 55-year-old's later days at the club were marred by disagreement, and finally detachment, from the former 'presi.'
Some of the discord may have stemmed from the fact that Agust韓 Morera, rather than Salom, was selected to replace Soler as president upon the latter's resignation.
In any case, Salom will now focus on his health, given that he's due to an operation over the next few days. Prior to his departure he declared himself "happy" with his work and offered thanks for "all the care [he'd] received."

Morientes: Copa Del Rey Means Nothing
Valencia striker Fernando Morientes insists that victory in the Copa Del Rey will not wipe away the tarnished image of the club抯 disastrous campaign in the league.
Morientes, who has scored 18 goals in 46 games since his move from Liverpool in 2006, insists that his side have failed with the objectives and he has described winning the Copa Del Rey as perhaps his worst achievement, given the fact that Los Che failed so miserably in La Liga.
However, the former Real Madrid hit-man believes his Valencia side will be challenging for a top four finish next season.
