Seven On Barca Blacklist?

In the next few days Barcelona technical secretary Txiki Begiristain is expected to meet with the players the club no longer want to retain.

After watching Barca finish the season without a major trophy, there is set to be a huge squad overhaul as the Catalans look to bring in fresh blood and weed out those they no longer consider valuable.

Begiristain is ready to meet with the representatives of Juliano Belletti, Sylvinho, Thiago Motta, Edmilson, Ludovic Giuly, Santiago Ezquerro and Javier Saviola.

The latter revealed on Monday that he was sure to leave the Nou Camp, and refused to rule out a move to Real Madrid.

The club will tell the others that their services are no longer required, but it will be up to the players if they decide to remain and risk minimal first-team involvement.

Eidur Gudjohnsen, Rafa M醨quez and Lilian Thuram could also leave the club if suitable offers are made

Last week midfielder Deco warned that things must change at the club. Change, they almost inevitably will.

Laporta backs Rijkaard, wants 6 signings
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has rubbished tabloid claims that coach Frank Rijkaard would be given the heave-ho in the summer and be replaced by Arsenal boss Ars鑞e Wenger.

Following a turbulent season at the Camp Nou in which Rijkaard's grasp of tactics came under close scrutiny, some reports suggested the Dutchman could be handed his P45.

But Laporta says he will not be showing Rijkaard the door, while Ronaldinho and Samuel Eto'o will also be staying at the club despite claims the trio do not enjoy a harmonious relationship.

Laporta told a news conference on Tuesday: "There have been some internal disciplinary problems which we will come down hard on. I'm not going to name names. We'll wash our dirty linen in house.

"We have absolute confidence in our technical staff and coach. Frank Rijkaard will be the Barcelona coach next season, he is very motivated, and looking forward to the new campaign.

"To strengthen the side, we are seeking a left back, a centre-back, maybe two midfielders and one or two forwards.

"We want Ronaldinho and Eto'o to continue at the club - Neither are for sale. Rijkaard thinks the same, and the players have told me they also want to stay."

Rijkaard Conditional On Ronaldinho And Eto'o

During a rather frank interview, Frank Rijkaard admitted that he would like to keep both Ronaldinho and Eto'o, but that some codes of conduct would have to be adhered to.

"I抦 really excited about continuing," Rijkaard told the club's official website.

"When you finish the season you notice the tiredness, but it抯 a pity we don抰 have time to continue and put things right in this league, to react and demonstrate that we are a great club.

"Unfortunately that抯 not the case but that generates a lot of excitement about change details, to improve once again the dynamic of the dressing room.

"It gives you the feeling that that you want to start right now."

Asked if he thought Ronaldinho and Eto'o would both be a part of the team after the wrongs were righted, he said: "Yes, but that抯 something I抳e always said. They抮e great players.

"They抮e wanted by a great many teams around the world and for good reasons. They抮e tremendous figures."

There has been a lot of talk of attitude, and Rijkaard clarified that there were some things that would have to change.

"I抎 like to continue with them, but now we also have to indicate how we have to work with them as well," the Dutchman said.

"We have to treat all players the same. But I抳e got a lot of confidence that these two players can continue to mean a great deal for the club. I抳e got confidence so let抯 see.

"If some details don抰 change, we抣l talk and take decisions. That doesn抰 just mean those two but the whole squad."

He also admitted that at certain moments, control could have slipped out of his hand: "When I抦 on top of things and I know what抯 going on I can take steps easily.

"I basically believe it抯 the responsibility of each one of us to behave well and live for sport, and to live so that we are in a condition to make our members happy.

"But then, not every bit of news got to me straight away. Sometimes, there were things I didn抰 know."

The comments speak of a man who himself had learned as a result, a man willing to admit his mistakes, and a man seething to put them right.

"For me, accusing my players would be too easy," he added. "I抦 working with them and in that sense, not that I feel more important, but I抦 the man who has to manage the players and demand that they do their job.

"I prefer to accuse myself while being aware that I do everything that I can and not accuse the players. Players do what you let them do. That抯 simple and clear.

"I have to start a season and make things clear and make the players behave the way we want. All the players in the squad are good people and didn抰 want to go through this. So for the players who keep on working, next season will be a big motivation."

A few things will change. That is for sure! Whether or not Ronaldinho and Eto'o will both stay, we will have to wait and watch!

Inter, Chelsea Linked As Barcelona Put Deco On The Market

Deco could be one of the players that will be sold by FC Barcelona over the summer as part of the club's squad rebuilding project, if they receive the right offer.

Some members of the Blaugrana board have been unhappy with the Portuguese international's input last term and believe that he should no longer be considered untouchable.

Only six months ago Deco was viewed as a key member of the team and any offer would have been rejected, but Bar鏰 are keen to reshape their playing staff.

Joan Laporta said that certain players were not going to leave, with Ronaldinho, Lionel Messi and Samuel Eto'o on that list, but Deco has been struck off.

A report in Catalan daily Sport claims that he was given a warning about his performances midway through the season and did nothing to change his attitude in games.

Deco apparently reacted badly to the request to be more influential both on and off the field and the directors that issued those orders are now pushing for the club to cash in on him.

Laporta's talk of change within the squad has led to speculation that it is not just fringe players that will be offered to other clubs and Deco could be the first big name to be sold.
