Ex-DAP leader on Bersih 4.0: Chinese show of force
Posted by The Unspinners at 8/27/2015
Ever seen the born again Christians or the new Christians?
Having become Christians, the first order of the day is to declare that all others are doomed for hell and it is only through Christ can one find salvation and heaven.
So the quest to save souls begin, never mind all these while they were living in blissful ignorance. It is similar with the upcoming Bersih rally. Many have asked me if I am attending. My short answer is, No.
Suddenly, I am barraged with accusation that I am not bothered about the state of affairs of the country and the future of the country.
Attending the Bersih rally is naturally an individual decision and may be premised on many reasons. Its one's right to attend, not my business to prevent them.
However, not many have asked why I will not be attending. Many do not even want to know my reason.
Hijack by politicians ...
For a start, I will admit that Bersih started off with the noble aim of reforming the electoral system.
Sadly, opportunist politicians saw Bersih as a platform to promote themselves as defenders of justice as seized the mantle from the founders.
Suddenly, it was politicians dictating and directing the cause of Bersih.
I still remember one prominent politician during the Bersih rally who spent much time in the periphery of the rally until the water cannot was fired.
Suddenly, out popped and to the front went this politician wanting to get drenched and to his joy he got well drenched.
Next thing he is uploading and updating his Facebook portraying himself to be as though he was leading in the front. For him the Bersih rally was for his personal agenda.
Hate Malay agenda
Anyway, leaving that aside, by now it is pretty obvious the most enthuatistic about the Bersih rally are the Chinese and particular the Chinese youth who have been brainwashed to simply hate UMNO.
In the last election the Chinese really believed that they could grab political power but sadly that gamble failed.
Now, as in previous Bersih rallies, it gives them yet another opportunity to weaken the power of the majority and to slowly work their way to sneak in and grab power.
In the run up to this weekend's Bersih, it is the Chinese who are in the forefront promoting Bersih.
Watch them in the shopping centres doing Bersih promotions, the use of social media to promote and to encourage participation.
The cartoons appearing in the blogs and Facebook calling all to the rally which often have oriental features and the messages in Mandarin.
To many Chinese, it is a badge of honour to attend a Bersih rally. I asked many of the Chinese youth "Apa itu Bersih?". Most replied "Mau kasi Najib turun".
Clearly, they do not even know the real purpose of Bersih. Frankly, the Chinese have upped the ante, and the majority Malays are watching.
The Chinese are refusing to realise that, the Malay angst is in truth against Najib and not really against UMNO. So, the Chinese who are using Bersih to achieve a covert agenda are in truth really playing with fire.
The Malay may be prepared to accept that economically they cannot stand or compete against the Chinese, but Malays will shed blood rather than give up political power and that to, to the Chinese.
Malays are becoming apprehensive that Chinese are using a segment of Malays as a front to grab power and once that's successful, they only need to attach strings to the Malays in power.
To me, the wholehearted Chinese support for Bersih is most worrying. What's more they are finding inspiration from the public-mass rallies in Taiwan and Hong Kong and trying to replicate it here.
Death nail
I seriously believe this weekend's Bersih rally will bring little change, but the noticeable presence of Chinese at the rally will be enough to convince the Malays that they are in the cusp of losing political power or the very least their political power is weakening.
Thus, if there is anything to make the Malays rally and unite, it will the Bersih rally.
That will only mean another death nail for the Chinese. In 2013 the Chinese took a political gamble and failed.
As inveterate gamblers, there is no let up in the Chinese and for the Chinese this Bersih rally is worth another punt (again), never mind the community will end up paying for collateral damage done.
If you have made up your mind to attend the rally, it is your call and any consequences thereafter is solely yours. I can only wish you a safe return.
