Abidal To Rebel As Lyon Hold Out For More Money
Lyon have insisted that there is no agreement with Barcelona over the transfer of Eric Abidal, and the club's attitude has infuriated the player, who has returned to France for showdown talks.
There had been suggestions that a deal of around 14-15 million euros had been struck between Lyon and Barca, and that the player - who was already in Barcelona - would complete his move this week itself.
Spanish and French newspapers both carried similar stories today, but Lyon have responsed through an official notice, saying: "There is no agreement with Barcelona over the transfer fo Eric Abidal."
They also revealed that "on Wednesday, we received an offer from the Catalan club but rejected it, and discussions continue."
Lyon are still stalling for the 20 million euros they had demanded initially, while Barcelona believe that to be completely unrealistic. They have upped their offer from 9 to 14m, and will not go any further.
Lyon's approach has, in the meantime, infuriated Abidal, who reports claim will rebel against the club for denying him his wish despite having a great offer on the table.
The French champions are happy to hold out until August in order to fins someone who will meet their valuation, while Abidal wants this saga to end so that he can have a few calm weeks before reporting for Barca's pre-season training.
He has now returned to France, and showdown talks are expected. |

Barcelona Confirm Abidal Capture
FC Barcelona have announced that they have agreed to sign 蓃ic Abidal from Olympique Lyonnais as their summer rebuilding programme continues at full tilt.
The French international revealed that he will complete his medical tomorrow, before signing a four year contract, after the club had stated that a deal had been reached.
After spending several days in the Catalan capital, Abidal will become the Blaugrana's third signing of the summer after Thierry Henry and Yaya Tour |
