Chelsea are reportedly ready to pull off a shock move to bolster their striking options by bringing Liverpool’s Luis Suarez to Stamford Bridge.
The Uruguayan striker, 25, could leave for a fee of around £40 million at the end of the season according to the Daily Express, with Manchester City having also been linked to the player.
Suarez has been vital to Liverpool and is currently leading the Premier League scoring charts playing in a side that has struggled to hit their best form so far this season under new manager Brendan Rodgers.
“He is a good man and a wonderful player and if you work with him, you see why managers will love him and why supporters idolise him. He gives it his all,” Rodgers said of Suarez.
Chelsea’s much maligned Fernando Torres has been under pressure to produce but has failed to find form and Suarez would certainly boost their forward line.
Despite Rodgers’ reluctance to sell his star player, the prospect of a club playing Champions League football could be an attraction for Suarez if Liverpool, currently 11th in the Premier League, fail to qualify for the competition.  |

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers could be set to make a surprise loan move for out-of-favour Aston Villa forward Darren Bent.
Liverpool have been lacking in attacking options all season with Fabio Borini out until the new year with an ankle injury and Andy Carroll out on loan at West Ham, meaning Rodgers only has one recognised striker in Luis Suarez.
The Northern Irishman made it clear at the close of the summer transfer window that he didn't have much money to play with and a loan move in January may be the preferred route.
Bent has only started six games under Paul Lambert this season and reports have suggested a rift between the player and his boss, although the former Norwich man strongly denies this.
Villa, who are struggling down at the foot of the table, may be reluctant to allow the England striker to leave on loan after they shelled out a club record fee £22million two seasons ago.
"Darren is fine. There's nothing at all. The most important thing is Aston Villa Football Club," said Lambert
"If we can get in the quality in the final third we need to support what we have, then there will be enough to keep the team moving forward." said Rodgers.  |
