My take on the the Jakarta blast it ought to be a bitter sweet success for the terrorists, a couple of reasons,
1-they managed to execute their attacks, irrespective that they didn't managed to kill a lot of people. The best scenario is to stop them from executing the attacks, This part I feel the Indons have to really catch up, as they have mixed success in stopping these acts from happening.
2- they managed to execute their attacks in BROAD DAYLIGHT. This brazen act also proved that they have little or no regard for the resistance they will face, either they are supremely confident of their abilities, or they are foolhardy, the verdict is out there.
3- They are using combined tactics, of armed gunmen, seizing and holding their ground, executing hostages, explosives (IEDs and/or grenades), suicide attacks, this requires coordination as there is a few sequence of events happening, all for maximum destruction. This level of attacks requires resources and logistics, which now proves that they have it. And they will improve on it.
Both parties will walk away from this with some AAR (after action review) and there's no prize for guessing who will improve on their process and execution. We might not be so lucky the next time. If I may read it correctly, there is a level of 'fear fatigue' rather than unafraid. True that live goes on, true also that terrorists are out there to end the very livelihood we want to keep it going. Now that the terrorists realised that people actually kind of ignore or tak layan them, they will up their level of death and destruction to get the attention they want. It is not good news at all. |
