Juventus Name Liverpool Striker Luis Suarez as Top Summer Target
Turin side set sights on Anfield forward.
Liverpool striker Luis Suarez remains a top summer target for Juventus.
Tuttosport says Juve GM Beppe Marotta has the Uruguay international high on his shortlist of targets to replace the departing Alessandro del Piero.
Liverpool MD Ian Ayre has confirmed they plan new contract talks with Suarez at the end of the season. But unlike the Reds, Marotta can offer Suarez Champions League football and the chance to play in a new stadium barely 12 months old.
Luis Suarez is Liverpool’s most effective attacking weapon and a player who has become a cult favourite with the Anfield faithful and whilst the Merseyside club would be loathed to lose the Uruguayan international, there must be a fear that such a move could occur.
With Liverpool not only set to make it three seasons in a row without Champions League action it is also arguable to state that despite domestic cup successes Kenny Dalglish’s side has in fact moved backwards over the past year and unless the club’s American owners are willing to once again dig deep there is a very real chance that more lean years are around the corner.
Juventus on the other hand are experiencing a renaissance and having gone the entire season unbeaten look like genuine title chasers after themselves going through a very sticky patch, that did of course include demotion to Serie B.
Alessandro Del Piero will be a tough player to replace, even though the veteran striker hasn’t been at his best for at least a couple of seasons, but Luis Suarez may well be a good alternative for the Old Lady of Italian football. |
