The Battle Of Monday-Tuesday Dramas Heats Up With Strong Contenders
According to statistics released by Nielsen Korea, the fourth episode of SBS’s Monday-Tuesday drama “Defendant” scored nationwide ratings of 18.7 percent. This is 1.4 percent higher than the ratings of the third episode that aired on January 30. Receiving high praise, the drama has been continuously increasing its viewership ratings since it began airing on January 23. Starting off with an impressive figure of 14.5 percent for its first episode, “Defendant” did well in its second (14.9 percent), third (17.3 percent), and fourth (18.7 percent) episodes as well. The ratings for the drama are increasing at a faster rate than those of its predecessor, “Romantic Doctor Kim.” The medical drama started at 9.5 percent in its first episode and reached 18.8 percent by its seventh episode, a feat “Defendant” reached in only four. The following episode scored ratings of 21.7 percent, helping the drama break the 20 percent mark in four weeks, and the production ended on a high note with ratings reaching close to 30 percent. With many curious to see whether “Defendant” will reach the 20 percent mark faster than “Romantic Doctor Kim,” a strong rival may stop it in its tracks. MBC’s “Rebel: Thief Whole Stole the People” began airing on January 30, with ratings for the first episode coming at 8.9 percent and for the second episode at 10.0 percent. Meanwhile, KBS 2TV’s “Hwarang” scored ratings of 9.7 percent for episode 13 and 9.1 percent for episode 14, dropping to last place in the Monday-Tuesday drama race.
