ESTORIL, Portugal: Jorge Lorenzo of Spain won the Portuguese GP on Sunday for his first Moto GP victory.
The rookie Yamaha rider, who started on pole for the third straight race, worked his way back to the front with 15 laps to go after losing his advantage at the first turn. Lorenzo held off fellow Spaniard Dani Pedrosa of Honda and teammate Valentino Rossi for his maiden win.
Lorenzo, a two-time champion in 250cc, won the 28-lap race in 45 minutes, 53.089 seconds.
"I'm flipping out. There aren't words to describe this," Lorenzo told Spanish state TV. "Everything went perfectly."
