why dry lease? is the support network for A/B the same as E/F that we invest rather than lease too? |

The Gripen NG is still years away from production, and I don't think we want to buy the 'old' Gripen do we? That is why I suggested an initial squadron of ex-Svenska Flygvapnet Gripens for us to dry lease. That way,we can have the jets fairly quickly to fill in the gap between the Mig's retirement and the eventual induction of our own brand new Gripen E/Fs.
While this is happening,we can also join up in the development of the new E/F version so that we can add our requirements into the programme. This way,by the time it is ready,we'll have ironed out any problems that might arise..avoiding MKM-esque post delivery problems.
Also,we also stand to gain knowledge from advanced avionics development(AESA tech,info/net-centric sensor fusion tech, advanced missile tech(Meteor n IRIS-T),UCAV tech etc.
This is the future of airpower and we shud get on the train, not left behind. |

That is why the Gripen is the best choice so far for TUDM |

better wait for NG version which will be ready the latest by 2014.
this way we can not only integrate our requirement but also we can negotiate for a far better price, payment ToT and perhaps, manufacturing contracts |

I wonder if y'all understand wet/dry lease as I do.. I was involved when we wet leased our B737s to Cambodia in the 90s.I flew(and many other Malaysians)for Royal Air Cambodge under the wet lease agreement. In fact,we had quite a scare when the Khmer Rouge started getting rowdy shooting at aircrafts on approach into Siem Reap.
If u dry lease,u get the planes but not the pilots..correct me if I'm wrong. In a wet lease, everything is provided including the pilots, maintanence etc.My argument for a dry lease(where we only get the planes etc) is that so that our pilots do the flying, our maint'crew does the maintaining and so on as a lead in to getting our own E/Fs.Tak kan la nak kasi diorang maintain the planes for us? Bila lagi nak belajar bebudak groundcrew etc? Same goes for other aspects of operations as well.
Again,we lease ex-SwedeAF Gripens for OUR pilots to fly,and when the E/F version becomes available,we send back the leased 'old' ones and start taking delivery of our own brand new E/Fs.That should be the deal and what I meant in my earlier posts.I wrote in length in the previous post,I hope it is easy to understand..thnx

know it very well bro..involved in some deals with MH ...anyway I believe wet lease will still invlove local ground crew in support and we can tweak the agreement to transfer the tech know how to the ground crew itself..the problem is that for the stores and inventories if purchased will as you have to under a dry lease will leave you holding the bag when the birds are returned, so its better if they come under consignment under a wet lease deal...
i guess for the airforce a hybrid wet/dry lease would be the best, ie planes + consignment stores/inventory + maintenance support with local TOT..GOM should be able to work out sumtin out of ordinary aviation practice if they want to pursue this..
a 734 pelot in cambodge eh...what about myanmar? |
