KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 — Datuk Nawawi Ahmad has insisted he did not identify the Yang diPertuan Agong as the “Malaysian Official 1” from the US Justice Department’s (DOJ) lawsuit to seize assets linked to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
Instead, the Langkawi MP claimed that his controversial Facebook post, which was interpreted as doing so, only sought to state that the Agong was the constitutional head of the country.
“They are two different things in this matter, the DOJ mentions MO1 as Malaysia Official One, whereas I am mentioning Malaysia Official Number One,” he was quoted telling the Malay language daily Berita Harian.
