Shetty sisters' khamosh over Fareb

Actor - turned - director Deepak Tijori signed Shetty sisters - Shilpa and Shamita -- in his 'Fareb'. Both the sisters agreed to work together in Tajori's movie, as Shamita was not getting movie offers. They accepted Tjori's offer after consulting their family. Incidentally, Shilpa was acting in Tijori's suspense thriller 'Khamosh - Kauf Ki Raat'. Deepak had also completed the script of 'Fareb' during the shoot of 'Khamosh

Bachchans in Badrinath

The biggest film family of Bollywood was seen praying at the holy shrine of Badrinath in Garhwal. Yes, we are talking about the Bachchan family, Amitabh and his son Abhishek along with their industrialist friend Anil Ambani of the Reliance group and his former actress wife Tina Munim Ambani, and politician Amar Singh, who prayed at the feet of Lord Shiva. Our team met them at a hotel in Rudra Prayag where they stayed for a short while on their way to Badrinath. Those who had been there on a holy mission to the shrine were found excited to have got a chance to have a glimpse of their favorite stars.

Shilpa turns Khalnayika

After the success of 'Bazigaar' and 'Dhadkan', Shilpa Shetty has been waiting for a hit. However, no producer is seriously considering to sign her for his or her project in the wake of her several consecutive flops. As a saving grace she has shifted towards South. Though she has acted in southern movies in the past too, she always aspires for Hindi movies. At present, she is acting in a Kannad movie titled 'Aatre Shankar'. But she is playing the negative (Kalnayika) role in the hope that the people of south will accept her as Khalnayika.

KARISMA'S ABSENCE PUZZLES INDUSTRY

Karisma Kapoor was missing at the recent party hosted by director-producer S. Ramanathan to celebrate the completion of his long-awaited movie 'Zamaanat'. Incidentally, Amitabh Bachchan was present at the jashn, while his costar Karisma Kapoor was conspicuous by her absence. This has puzzled the industry. According to sources close to Karisma, she was ready to grace the occasion. However, she was shocked to know that she had not been invited to the party. This has led to rumors that the producer-director, who is very close to Big B and considers Amitabh as his most honorable patron, had intentionally avoided calling Karisma on this occasion.

The reason is simple. Ranganathan didn't like to embarrass Amitabh Bachchan. This is to recall that both the Bachchan and Kapoor families haven't yet forgotten the past incident of the cancellation of the betrothal of Karisma with Abhishek. The Bachchan family had felt very humiliated on the reported insistence of Karisma's mother about the financial status of Abhishek at that time. Some circles have, however, tried to undermine the absence of Karisma by saying that she might be preoccupied with her newborn child. This is indeed painful for Karisma that an elderly actor like Amitabh hasn't pardoned Karisma for no fault of her. How 'Zamaanat' will fare at the box office will be known later after its release?

Akshay as 'Umraojaan' hero?

As reported in this column, J.P. Dutta has already finalized Priyanka Chopra as the heroine for his 'Umraojaan', but he is yet to decide on his hero. However, Priyanka Chopra is putting all her pressure on Dutta for zeroing on Akshay Kumar as her pairing with the latter has hit their films. But it seems to be a dream. J.P.Dutta hasn't forgotten his insult when Akshay Kumar had declined his 'LoC' offer. In fact, Dutta had invited Akshay to meet him for listening to the script, but Akshay hadn't gone and had rather told Dutta to come to narrate it during his shoot. Dutt had felt embarrassed and written off Akshay's name from 'LoC' cast. Will Dutta forget the past embarrassment and oblige Priyanka is a million dollar question?

Did beauties deceive Akshay?

Akshay Kumar is known for flirting with girls in the tinsel town. There is a long list of his victims from Shilpa Shetty to Raveena Tandon. However, sources close to Akshay claim the contrary. They blame these Bollywood beauties to deceive Akshay by using him as a stepping-stone in riding the stairs of their careers. How else Akshay had agreed to marry Twinkle Khanna in preference to sexier Shilpa or prettier Raveena? While Akshay looked for a wife to take care of his household, Shilpa and Raveena exploited their proximity to Akshay in building their filmi life, these sources add. So, Akshay quickly married with a simple girl like Twinkle Khanna. Then, Priyanka Chopra pared with him in a number of movies. This has reportedly upset Akshay's wife Twinkle Khanna to the extent that she keeps a strict watch on Akshay's shooting schedule. Some times she visits shooting places too. Priyanka and Akshay have denied all these rumors though. Is Priyanka also using Akshay as a stepping-stone in her career's growth?

Darshans promote Amisha now

Darshan brothers are known for their special liking for Karisma Kapoor in the past. She was noticed in all their publicity materials even at the cost of other actors. However, they seem to have changed their strategy after her marriage. Now, Darshans have replaced Karisma with Amisha Patel. This can be witnessed in their recent promos of 'Mere Jeewan Saathi'. Sources close to Darshan brothers attribute this change to the pressure from their distributors. Others also share this view. According to them, the movie watchers always like to watch glamour in the entertainment industry, and those actresses who have been married, lose their charm, at least among the general audience. That's why the songs picturized on Amisha Patel and Akshay Kumar find more importance in the film's promos, besides their kissing scene. This has certainly made Amisha happy. Is Karisma listening?

Abhishek is averse to dance

Abhishek Bachchan is moving towards stardom following his spectacular success in 'Dhoom' after a number of flops. However, he has a weakness; he doesn't like to dance, at least in real life, though he has to in the reel life. He is anxiously awaiting the outcome of his 'Bunty Aur Babli' starring Amitabh and Rani Mukherjee that will release on May 27th. Abhishek's next ' Sarkaar' directed by Ram Gopal Verma is also ready for release in June. Besides, his 'Dus' starring Sanjay Dutt, Suniel Shetty, Zayed Khan, Shilpa Shetty and Esha Deol, is also ready for exhibition. Like his father, Abhishek too entered into a hit phase after several flops.

Fardeen: Natasha averse to acting on screen

As reported earlier, Fardeen Khan is going to marry Natasha soon as they have already been betrothed. We asked Fardeen about his past relations with Natasha at a Mumbai party. Fardeen claimed that he is very happy to turn his childhood friend into a lifelong relationship. He added that they would marry towards the end of this year. When asked if Natasha, daughter of a yesteryears' actress Mumtaz would act in films, Fardeen clarified that she would not enter into films. " Natasha doesn't like to be seen on the screen."

Priyanka to play Zeenat's role in 'Don' remake

Renowned lyricist Zaved Akhtar's director son Farhan Akhtar is now making a remake of Amitabh Bachchan and Zeenat starrer 'Don'. Significantly, Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra will be seen together on the screen for the first time. Zaved Akhtar and Salman's father Saleem wrote the original 'Don' script jointly. This time round, Farhan has decided to make wide changes in the remake's script. Besides, Shah Rukh and Priyanka Chopra will play the respective roles of Amitabh and Zeenat in the original movie. How far the remake will succeed in making it to the box office remains to be seen?

Amitabh Bachchan has appeared as a guest in Shah Rukh Khan's 'Paheli'. SRK is stated to have paid Rs 10 million to Amitabh for it. However, the latter returned the huge sum to SRK, saying that he had not appeared in his movie for the sake of money. SRK had no words to convey his grateful thanks to the Big B.

Sunny-Amisha pair to repeat in Baweja movie

After a great success the old team of 'Gardar--Ek Prem Katha' , Sunny Deol and Amisha Patel, is returning to the screen in Harry Baweja's forthcoming movie. This movie will star the 'Qayamat' girl Neha Dhupia in a lead role too. Amisha Patel will play a dumb girl. After 'Black' this has become a fashion in the tinsel world to play the roles of deaf and dumb.

KAJOL HEDGING FOR SUCCESS WITH COMMERCIALS

On a comeback trail, actor Kajol is hedging her box office success with television commercials. First off the mark was an advertisement for Whirlpool with husband Ajay Devgan. And now she's endorsing the century's best marketing line "diamonds are forever" becoming Diamond Trading Company, the marketing arm of DeBeers, Brand Ambassor for - Asmi. She'll remain the face of the diamond jewelry firm for two years. With her first comeback film set to roll by August, we caught up with Kajol to talk about the return of fiery Bengali beauty. Diamonds are certainly Kajol's best friends. And the vivacious actor is now expressing this fascination at least a year before her first comeback film hits the marquee.

As she reappears in various commercials in a fresher, more glamorous avatar, it is evident she has changed her opinion that endorsements are boring. "I wasn't averse to endorsements. It's just that I like to do things when the time is right according to me. When I was full-fledged into films, I didn't have time to do endorsements. And now I have a little time on my hands, and I have realised that ads don't take a lot of time, and that's why I am more open to them now. And thoroughly enjoying it as well." Since she is saying that diamonds are her best friends we tried to find out, what sort of jewellery is she fond of? "I love solitaires. I like designed jewellery and wouldn't mind wearing elaborate sets.

But I bought my solitaires with not my first pay check but when I had a little more money, and you'll always find me wearing them. We are inseparable," says Kajol with a sparkle in her eyes. Any more endorsements that we'll be seeing her in? "Haven't you had enough in Whirlpool and now Asmi?," she retorts. "These are the two that I am doing right now. Have got a few offers, but I am still thinking. And with my film starting in August, I better not take up a lot of them." And we hear her comeback film will be with Aamir Khan, directed by Kunal Kohli of 'Hum Tum'. "Yes that's true. I was also supposed to do Karan's film, but a long schedule in London will keep me away from my family, which I don't want right now.

And Kunal's film is what I will be shooting soon for. And I have worked with Aamir before, so it should be fun again. Can't talk more on the film yet. Let it go on floor first," says the bubbly actress. But what about other film, apart from this one? " As and when it happens you'll know. I am now open to doing some good films. Won't be taking any and every offer that comes my way." Well, for Kajol fans, it's certainly good to hear that she'll be back on the screen sometime next year. Till then we have to be satisfied with her advertisements and just hope that she signs more ads and even more films in the coming few months.

Karisma Kapoor speaks up on splitsville

Delhi-based businessman and actor Karisma Kapoor's husband Sunjay Kapur's decision to go to court has taken the Kapoor-Kapur marital tiff from the bedroom into the public eye.

So much so that Karisma's desperate attempts to maintain the sanctity of her marriage by being fiercely private have been permanently foiled with the public tamasha that's ensued ever since Sunjay filed the petition.

Sunjay's petition in the Delhi High Court forbids wife Karisma from taking their daughter Samaira out of the country, without his knowledge.

The court has also issued notices to the Centre and the Regional Passport Office (RPO), Mumbai, following Kapur's allegation that all laws were flouted while issuing the passport in Samaira's name.

With much having been said on the turmoil in this shaadi, except by the couple in question, Bombay Times brings to you Karisma's first ever interview on her troubled marriage. "I haven't spoken anywhere so far. This is the first time that I am talking about the issue. I am not in a state to say much," says Karisma.

Karisma also says she is trying her best to cope in this traumatic time. "Yes, I am trying my best not to be affected by the hullabaloo around," she continues.

"It's a very trying time for me. I need my space and time and I am not in a state to elaborate on anything at length right now," she says.

Karisma's family is rallying around her in this moment of crisis. And it is not just Karisma they're worried about. The family and Karisma's primary concern at present is her four-monthold daughter Samaira.

The actor feels Samaira may be too young to understand all this, but she doesn't want any bad impact of this public spat to affect her baby, now or ever.

So Karisma, who is relying heavily on her inner strength, prayers and family support says that all she has been wanting is that Samaira doesn't carry these scars for life.

"I pray for my daughter Samaira that she comes out of it unaffected. Even when growing up, I trust God will take care of her," says Karisma.

Friends close to the actor say that the tamasha surrounding her marriage has made Karisma's life really difficult. A close friend reveals that all the actor wants now is to be left alone and is herself very unsure of where her life's headed.

Currently in Mumbai, Karisma Kapoor's return to her sasural in Delhi seems highly unlikely.

Karisma's husband drags her to court!!

We all that Karisma Kapoor's marriage had gone sour in the recent past after the delivery of her daughter Samaira. Karisma had left her husband's home and is currently living with her parents at Mumbai. The news was still very private but now husband Sanjay Kapur has brought it out in open. Sanjay has filed a case in the Delhi high court seeking to prevent Karisma to take her daughter out of the country without his consent. Sanjay claimed that the passport of their five-month-old daughter was made illegally. As per the law both parents of a minor child have to submit an affidavit to procure a minor's passport. But Sanjay says that he was never informed about the passport and it was illegally made by the RPO Mumbai without his approval. The court has issued a notice to Karisma and also the RPO asking them to reply by August 12. Although the issue has just initiated with Samaira?s overseas travel, sources close to the Kapur family say that this may subsequently lead to the battle on the custody of the child.

Salman-Bhagyashree together again!!

Salman Khan made one of the best Bollywood screen pairs with Bhagyashree years back in Maine Pyaar Kiya. But after that they never worked again. Now after 16 years, the duo will be seen in a film. But both are roped in for special appearances. Director Raj Kanwar has confirmed that both Salman Khan and Bhagyashree are doing cameos in his film Humko Deewana Kar Gaye. The film stars Akshay Kumar, Bipasha Basu and Katrina Kaif in lead roles. However what Kanwar has not clarified is whether Salman and Bhagyashree are paired opposite each other in the film. Also he isn?t willing to divulge about their roles in the movie saying that it?s the surprise element of the movie. As of now we can just tell you that Bhagyashree plays Akshay Kumar?s sister in the movie.
