Hitzfeld slams Bayern players
Bayern Munich coach Ottmar Hitzfeld laid into his side after seeing their hopes of grabbing the final Champions League spot diminished in a 2-0 defeat to Stuttgart.
Two goals in three minutes from Brazilian striker Cacau gave Stuttgart victory, stretching their advantage over the Bavarians to five points.
"Our performance was simply dreadful," Hitzfeld told Arena television.
"We had problems getting into the match and I didn't like the way our heads dropped. It was a massive disappointment. Certainly we lack a bit of talent but we should be getting more out of this team. We had no fight in our hearts.
"We're not used to being fourth, normally Bayern play for first place. There's a lack of motivation and a fear of failure."
Goalkeeper Oliver Kahn, whose defence deserted him completely for the second goal, was also critical of his team-mates.
"I was extremely surprised by the way we played in the first half," he told Arena after conceding two goals by Brazilian Cacau before half-time.
"You have to go back a long time to recall a first half as bad as that. They got their first goal and everyone collapsed. You can't walk around with your head down after giving up one goal or you'll give up another and that's what happened."
