Wenger defends Bendtner after poor form
TheDenmark international has come in for criticism from some sections ofthe Arsenal support for his disappointing form , but the boss believeshe is improving as a player and will rediscover his touch.
Wenger insisted he would be more worried were his frontmen not getting themselves in the positions to score.
"He is 21 years old, playing at the top level and creating chances. Theproblem at that level is if you don't create chances,'' said the Arsenal boss.
"He wants to work and he is becoming very professional.
"Before he was a little bit easy going. He realises now what it takes to me atop-class player. He works very well and for me he has a bright future.''
Wenger - whose side have kept seven clean sheets from the last nine -insists there is no reason to hit the panic button.
"We do not put any special pressure on a guy who misses a goal chance. Thebigger you make a problem, the bigger it becomes. We remind them they have thequality,'' said Wenger,
"I remember teams who concede goals in the final five minutes and the more yousay to them 'we don't want to concede goals in the last five minutes', the moreit becomes a problem and the more you concede goals.
"So you just have to be natural, spontaneous and believe in what you do andyour ability.''
Wenger added: "Sometimes you have to take a distance from a problem and justthink 'lets play well'.
"We have scored plenty of goals and it happens to any team to have a spellwhere you score a little bit less.'' |

TheFrenchman concedes that failing to qualify for the Champions League isnot unthinkable, but is trying to keep a positive frame of mind as theend ofthe season nears...
Arsenal face Fulham this weekend seeking revenge as their first loss ofthe current campaign exposed their early-season defensive flaws, whenBrede Hangeland toe-poked a ball into the Gunners' net from a cornerkick to grant the Cottagers a 1-0 win.
Sincethen Arsenal have failed to successfully kick-start their PremierLeague ambitions, and have been playing catch-up to Aston Villa,Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United for many games.
TheVillans are currently six points behind their rivals, but the WestMidlands outfit have a laborious fixture list coming up, and ArseneWenger's men will look to capitalise on any slip-up with a win overFulham.
Speaking to journalists at a pre-match press conference,the Frenchman admitted that he is confident of a top four finish, andbelieves the club will end their run of draws with a win over Fulham.
"They[Fulham] have a great defensive record away from home and we want tobreak that record. We know what situation we are in," he said. "Everygame left we have to strive to get three points."
He continued, "In football nothing is unthinkable but I am confident we will get a Champions League finish. 
"If we keep our consistency and our strength, and if we stay focused then we will make it," he concluded. |
