KBS labor strike puts programs at a standstill
The KBS Union workers have gone back to their picket line protesting working conditions and wages. Their last strike in 2010 (over unbalanced broadcasting) lasted over one month, drawing out many of our 1N2D staff and crew. During the crisis, PDs Na and Shin had to do their own editing of filming footage (while publicly supporting the strikers). This latest labor disagreement will definitely put a kink in how 1N2D plans to end the show. However, I’m all for better working conditions for our hard working crew so hoping things will eventually work out for all parties involved.
Currently, 1N2D has enough footage for the next 2-3 weeks, they just finished with the Best Friends Special recording. In the past, to accommodate unexpected events, 1N2D has spread filming materials over more episodes. However, with the lack of regular staffing, uneven editing and behind the scene post production have compromised the quality of the episodes. It really is unfortunate since we have a potentially good special coming up for a show that is planning to go out in a positive note. My hope is that 1N2D will be able to end next year with at least one well-prepared live recording.
Due to the labor strike that went in effect yesterday, KBS‘s programs have been put under an emergency state.
Fortunately for fans, ‘Music Bank‘ already completed their pre-recording last week so an episode will be airing this week. However, they revealed that their January 6th broadcast will be a problem, as they cannot continue in live or pre-recorded format following the labor strike.
As reported earlier, ‘Immortal Song 2‘ completed their rehearsal but had to halt right before the recording on December 19th. Everyone on set were sent home following the announcement of the labor strike. Whether or not they can broadcast with the few footage they have on December 31st remains up in the air.
‘Gag Concert‘ has no footage on hand, making it likely that they will cancel the broadcast altogether. If a recording does not proceed on the 21st, they will not be able to broadcast anything on the 25th.
A representative stated, “We cannot predict when the labor strike will end. This will greatly affect the future episodes of our shows.”
