Cesc Fabregas: Jgn pandang piala epl lagi...

Arsenal's lack of goals reflects empty seats at Emirates as Fulham earn draw
Arsenal (0) 0 Fulham (0) 0
Beating Roma last Tuesday was all very well, but the Premier League can be a lot tougher than the Champions League, as Arsenal keep discovering. Indeed this, their fourth consecutive Premier League match to end scoreless, increased the likelihood that Arsene Wenger抯 team will have to win the competition hailed as Europe抯 hottest in order to qualify for it next season; Aston Villa, the current occupants of fourth place, are at home to Stoke today and victory would give them an eight-point advantage with 11 matches left.
To put the result here in context, Villa are another of six clubs on whose grounds Fulham have drawn 0-0 this season. Roy Hodgson抯 men have also frustrated Liverpool, Tottenham, Stoke and Wigan. And the red majority of the crowd seemed to acknowledge as much as they filed mutely away. So well are Fulham organised, so strong is their team ethic and so fit did they appear in their third match in seven days (only Danny Murphy and Andy Johnson were rested in the FA Cup replay against Swansea) that there was indeed no disgrace in dropping points to them.
憭Credit to Fulham,拻 said Wenger afterwards. 憭They came to play and for 25 minutes were the better side. But our passing was not quick enough to give them problems and their central defence played well.拻 Absolutely. And, with due respect to Aaron Hughes, the giant Brede Hangeland was man of the match, even if Hodgson observed that that his passing was a shade below its customary standard. Mark Schwarzer kept goal superbly. Murphy and the water-carrier Dickson Etuhu were also excellent in midfield.
Only the finishing of Bobby Zamora, who had scored in each of the previous two matches after a long lean spell, and Johnson disappointed the manager. Zamora missed a late chance to give Fulham their first ever win at Arsenal. But it would have been harsh on the home team and, in particular, the tireless Robin van Persie, one of whose headers hit a post.
Asked to identify the reason for his side抯 lack of sparkle, Wenger cited staleness after the Champions League and unspecified 憭psychological拻 factors, which may or may not have included a certain defeatism in the face of growing public opinion that Wenger has at last produced a relatively ordinary team. We shall see. With Emmanuel Adebayor, Eduardo and Theo Walcott back, which could be the case within a fortnight, things might look different. But no one is missed more than the longer-term casualty Cesc Fabregas and time is running out.
Despite the healthy attendance figure, which as usual included any absentee season-ticket holders, there looked to be a few thousand empty seats, reflecting the general disenchantment. That it has got to some of the players was obvious in the relative perkiness of Andrey Arshavin, though the newcomer was not quite alone and found a willing accomplice in Van Persie.
Twice in the opening half Arshavin found Van Persie alive to his subtleties, with a drifting cross the Dutchman headed straight at Mark Schwarzer and then a rolled pass from which be elicited a sharp save. But it was two-way traffic and Fulham might themselves have led after an example of how their front partnership operated in the old-fashioned style, Zamora heading on for Johnson only for the smaller man to drag his drive wide.
On the resumption Van Persie threatened further, heading Samir Nasri抯 free-kick just over and Bacary Sagna抯 cross against the upright, but Wenger still made a change, sending on Nicklas Bendtner to partner Van Persie at the front. Soon, from Van Persie抯 corner, a Diaby header made Schwarzer save again, as he did from Arshavin.
Fulham were never out of the match and Zamora, whose industry and movement kept Arsenal抯 defence on alert, had an opportunity at which he wafted rather, the ball screwing wide. On this occasion Manuel Almunia, who, after seven hours and 59 minutes without conceding a goal, is at last receiving the credit he has come to deserve, was hardly tested. But the Emirates Stadium demands more than clean sheets.
