Jack Wilshere

Although he would never leave Arsenal, Jack Wilshere could be one of the greatest moves to ever happen to Liverpool as the youngster has only yet scratched the surface of his talent.

Gonzalo Higuain

Real Madrid's Gonzalo Higuain would be a colossal signing for Liverpool at the front. He has all the fluid creativity as a forward but can score when he is called upon.

During his current six-season career with Madrid he has 194 starts with 94 goals and 30 assists. The two seasons in which he has made more than 40 starts he has averaged 26 goals a season and the Reds could certainly use that right now.

Liverpool Rumours: 9 Latest Players Rumoured to Be on Way to Anfield
When your team is as world renowned as Liverpool, it's inevitable that whenever a transfer window is open there are going to be rumours galore.

This window is no different.

People have to get their heads out of the football manager mindset and realise that there aren't going to be £20 million deals done left, right and centre.

Liverpool spoiled us in 2011 when the sale of Fernando Torres was dovetailed with the arrival of Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez but this season is unlikely to be the same.

No one was expecting much movement from Dalglish then, and he has certainly tried to suggest that there won't be that movement now.

Whether you believe him or not is an entirely different matter of course.

Mind games between rival managers are rife and they all want to steal a march on getting a great deal.

Harry Redknapp's recent declaration of Demba Ba's release clause fee would surely rile manager Alan Pardew who likely wants to keep his star man, but it made me wonder who Redknapp may be targeting whilst his enemies are distracted with Ba business.

Until the end of the month rolls around, we'll never truly know the extent of which rumours were true and which weren't.

Either way, here's a few that are currently doing the rounds for Liverpool football club.

Darren Bent

Aston Villa striker Darren Bent has been heavily linked with Liverpool of late.

Even as recently as yesterday he was apparently offered as part of a swap deal involving Andy Carroll going the other way.

Yesterday's story was a surprising one considering Alex McLeish had declared that Dalglish told him he had no interest in Bent.

It seems there may be a bit of cat and mouse going on here and Liverpool would certainly benefit from Bent's poaching skills should they sign him.

Demba Ba

Newcastle striker Demba Ba has been linked with everyman and his dog since the speculation of his release clause being under £7 million surfaced.

Crunch sports have Liverpool linked with Ba as recently as yesterday, and they also talk about the Darren Bent situation along with Fernando LLorente of Athletic Bilbao.

Esteban Granero

Real Madrid midfielder Esteban Granero is the latest Spanish player to be linked with Liverpool FC.

The Spanish player's agent has apparently declared a move to Anfield would interest the player who is currently out in the cold at the Bernabeu.

There is no fee mentioned but Granero would provide an attacking midfield alternative for the Reds who occasionally looked short of ideas.

Wilfried Zaha

Crystal Palace seem to have all the top clubs chasing their English forward talent Wilfried Zaha.

The Mail Online reports that Kenny Dalglish has made enquiries with Zaha's manager and has discussed the players attitude.

Zaha is currently rated as a £10 million player but he is not yet considered ready for the Premier League.

Edinson Cavani

English radio station Talk Sport have identified a number of players on Liverpool's radar and Edinson Cavani is one of them.

The report also says the Napoli striker will likely cost over £50 million which makes him an unlikely purchase in January following Kenny Dalglish's recent comments.

Riccardo Montilivo

Fiorentina midfielder Riccardo Montolivo is also a player mentioned on the talk sport article.

Montolivo is a deep lying playmaker by trade, but is adaptable to play any position in central midfield.

With Montolivo's contract apparently due to expire in June, there is talk Liverpool have already offered Fiorentina a figure for Italian's services.

Luc Castaignos

Perhaps a more likely move for Liverpool is for Luc Castaignos of Inter Milan on a loan deal.

The Dutchman is yet to make a real impact for the Italian giants but they are reluctant to sell him due to his obvious talent.

Liverpool have been reported to be interested but it seems no official bid has been made so far.

Fernando Llorente

Athletico Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente is at least a fresh name linked with Liverpool.

Llorente claims Liverpool approached Bilbao at the end of 2010 but Bilbao did not want to sell him at the time.

At 6ft 5 inches tall, Llorente's heading is one of his best attributes.

Llorente is valued at approximately £30 million

Jermaine Defoe

Jermain Defoe finds himself a victim of ambition at Tottenham these days.

Seemingly not good enough for Harry Redknapp, Defoe often plays a bit part role from the bench despite his excellent goalscoring record.

The arrivals of Emmanuel Adebayor and Rafael Van Der Vaart have seen Defoe pushed out of the starting line up, and Redknapp is reported to be looking at buying a new striker which clears the way for Liverpool to make a £10 million bid.

New Liverpool striker 'arriving soon'

Kenny Dalglish's search for a new striker is nearing a conclusion, according to former Liverpool goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar.

The Reds have struggled for goals this season, and Luis Suarez's eight-game ban has left Dalglish short on options up front.

Andy Carroll and Dirk Kuyt have deputised for the Uruguayan, but the former has netted just twice this season, while the latter has failed to score in the league.

Thus, the acquisition of more firepower during the January transfer window is reported to have been identified as a priority for the Reds, and numerous players have been linked with a move to Anfield.

Chelsea's Salomon Kalou and Lille hotshot Moussa Sow have reportedly been on the Liverpool radar, while Darren Bent and Nikica Jelavic have been touted as possible targets.

But, according to Grobbelaar, it is a forward operating in the Eredivisie who is on a the verge of a winter switch to Merseyside.

"There are two strikers [Liverpool are interested in]," Grobbelaar told talkSPORT.

"I know that [Kenny Dalglish] is looking at a South American striker who is playing in Holland and I know that he's quite close in getting another striker.

"I'm not going to be the one to actually tell you who, but I'm sure that the striker will be arriving soon."
