Gael Clichy: Arsenal Must Grind Through 'Bizarre' Season
The Gunners struggling to finish in fourth place is akin to 'Bizarro World' for their French left-back...
Arsenal defender Gael Clichy has called on his team-mates to buckle down and not lose the plot completely in order to prevent a "bizarre" season from turning into a catastrophic one.
Not for the first time this season, some Gunners fans showed their frustration publicly at the end of the goalless stalemate against Fulham by jeering their team off the pitch. The fourth 0-0 in a row has all but ended any feint hopes of challenging for the Premier League title.
"We have to keep fighting," Clichy was quoted as saying in the Irish Examiner. "We know that other teams will drops points as well, this season is a bizarre season and we have to keep trying.
"It is just a case of this first goal. If we can score a goal in the first 20 minutes it's a different game and maybe we would finish with two or three."
Arsenal have their work cut out just to secure the final Champions League spot, so they will be looking to use their trip to West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday evening as a real statement of intent in the face of a deepening crisis and deafening criticism.

William Gallas Sidelined For Arsenal's Clash With West Brom
Swiss defender Johan Djourou will likely replace the Frenchman who is struggling with an ankle injury...
"sakit bulu lali ler plak gelas ni.."
Strong and pacey defender William Gallas has given Arsenal fans further injury discomfort going into their next Premier League clash, against relegation battlers West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns.
The French international's troublesome ankle is in need of attention and it is believed he will be rested for Tuesday's fixture.
"William is out for tomorrow's game, because he has an ankle problem for a while and we want to cure it. He will be back for Sunday," Arsene Wenger confirmed at his pre-match press conference.
"Nobody else is back for tomorrow so apart from William Gallas everyone else will be involved. Johan Djourou will come in at centre-back.
"But I will not rotate too much because there are five days before the Burnley game. There will be one or two but what we try to do is rotate a little bit without losing the balance of the team."
Gallas joins a growing number of key first-team personnel who are blocking the entrance to the physio's front door. Theo Walcott remains sidelined with a shoulder injury, while a knee injury keeps Francesc Fabregas at bay. Tomas Rosicky is still out of action due to his long-term battle to recover from his problematic hamstring tendon.
Mikael Silvestre is also still being treated for a calf injury, while Eduardo da Silva and Emmanuel Adebayor will continue to be missed because of hamstring injuries.
Regarding Walcott, Wenger said, "Theo is good, he just needs to get used to contact in training, but it looks positive.
"Eduardo has a small chance to be back for Burnley," he added, "even Adebayor has a small chance, maybe Burnley will be too tight, but a small chance.
"Fabregas and Rosicky [will return in] three weeks," he concluded.

Arsenal's Arshavin Recounts Wenger's Silence
Arsenal's Andrei Arshavin revealed his gaffer's silent anger after Saturday's stalemate...
Arsenal new boy Andrei Arshavin revealed that his gaffer, Arsene Wenger, both entered and left the dressing room in complete silence after the draw to Fulham last weekend.
His apparent loss for words is owed to the recent run of disastrous form at the club, the Gunners ending their last five matches with draws. Arsenal have been performing so poorly that their fans have taken to booing the team for their ineffective performances.
Russian playmaker, Arshavin, told the press of his boss' muted disappointment:
揌e said nothing in the dressing room but we all understand what was in his mind without any words spoken by Arsene Wenger," he said.
"If we do not win the next few games, the Champions League spot will soon become unattainable."
Arshavin also vocalised his own thoughts on the club's recent run of bad form.
揑 think in the last match we gave the opponent a little more space to counter. Therefore, in certain moments of the game opponents were able to have more possession.
揑t seems that we are trying to play, trying to score, but it is not happening. On the other hand, we are confident that soon goals and victories will come. |

First Meeting: Our first EPL match of the season; we won 1-0 courtesy of a fourth minute strike from our new signing Samir Nasri. We did, however, outshoot W.B.A 24-5
Recent Head-to-head Record:
16/08/2008 Arsenal 1-0 West Brom
15/04/2006 Arsenal 3-1 West Brom

26/12/2002 West Brom 1-2 Arsenal
27/08/2002 Arsenal 5-2 West Brom
Miscellaneous:
- W.B.A.'s top-scorer is their Czech strike Roman Bednar (6)
- January loan signing from Paris St Germain Youssuf Mulumbu (MF), skipper Jonathan Greening (MF), and Danish centre-back Jonas Olsson are all injury doubts
- Our own Jay Simpson is currently on loan to The Baggies - I think he's eligible to play if all parties have agreed to it, but feel free to correct me
- W.B.A. have suffered 'doubles' to Chelsea, Aston V, Man Utd, Newcastle, and Everton; soon, we hope, AFC will be added to that list |

Wenger demands focus from Gunners
Arsene Wenger feels his Arsenal side must free their minds to get back on the goal trail and kick-start the season.
The Gunners head to bottom club West Brom on Tuesday night on the back of four Barclays Premier League games without finding the net, the club's worst run since Wenger has been at the helm.
Wenger, though, believes his squad have it within themselves to put the finishing touches to their free-flowing football. He declared: "I believe the spirit of the team is great, the focus they have in training is great and they will be rewarded - I have never seen a team not being rewarded for that kind of spirit and quality."
Despite much being made of shortcomings in attack, having only edged past Roma in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 clash 1-0 from a Robin van Persie penalty, it has somewhat been overlooked that Arsenal's defence has conceded just three goals in 12 matches.
Wenger believes such consistency at the back is a solid foundation on which to build.
He said: "We want to keep the focus on that strength.
"We are in the final sprint of the season and you can see that it's vital and very, very important.
"You can only make results everywhere if you feel strong defensively."
