dear sherrinna...
that's the whole problem i think... very many people in this forum only talk about fluff ...about light books...about books that no serious readers even consider putting in their library!!....i know i'm going to get hit again...but never mind... i wish people do impove their reading taste...i don't learn and gain anything by discussing books like s kinsella or alaf21...
those books you mention do not err...fit to be discussed in depth... they're just err...junk food ...books that people read on the beach and throw in the dutbin after reading them....
i wish we all could be more err...discerning ...readers ...people like pessoa... i may totally disagree with him but his book choice are...well..eclectic....i hate some of his ideas but i learn something from his book choice...
don't get angry... but my purpose here is to get all of us to improve our reading err..reading taste and & choice....i mention some books that should be read...by people who don't want to err waste their time...

Terima kaseh di atas saranan Encik marquez itu. Saya memang berhasrat untuk meluaskan bacaan saya kepada bahan2 yg lebih berkualiti seperti yang Encik senaraikan. Asalkan bahan2 bacaan tersebut bukan jenis yang mesra-Aleya.;)
Saya pun kurang pasti siapa Incik Faulkner tu. Kata orang dia penulis agongan seorang penulis latin yang lalok sekaligus penagih nikotin tegar yang mana karya2nya (the latter's) mengamibil masa berdekad untuk diiktirafkan secara rasmi sebagai antara yang terhebat di seantaro universe. it's no credit to anybody to go loony over books like harry potter...with people proud of reading trash, junks, airport pulp fictions as though these are REAL reading.... no wonder Malaysia has such low...very low... standard of literary appreciation ....
By the way....if you ever watch ASTRO channel 14 (TVIQ) they have one good program on books.... Great writers of the 20th Century...aired around midnight...
it's a 45 min -1 hr program full of interviews with other fellow writers and critics... i just watched one program (by accident while surfing the channels) on Evelyn Waugh... and judging by this one ...it's highly recommended...
Each program covers one writer...peole who do lit studies are very familiar with the names... but it'll also be useful and interesting for people like me whose study is only science based....and gals/guys who never read past grisham....or potter....

yang silapnya kita skang nih...sudah banyak tercemar dengan unsur unsur dan ideologi barat yang senyap2 menyusup masuk dan sudah berakar umbi dalam aspek kehidupan kita...kita pandang yang barat itulah unggul yang terbaik. kononnya utk maju, utk berjaya kene pandang barat. kene baca buku barat yang berat2. kene berfikir cara barat. bab baca buku, aku setuju partly, boleh membantu. tapi siapa yang jadi pioneer dalam bidang2 ilmuan zaman kegemilangan islam?
bukankah kita dulu yang terkedepan?
kalau kita nak jadi good citizen, tak perlu baca buku2 barat yang berat2 tu pun.
teraju hidup berlandaskan al quran dan as sunnah, kita mmg akan melalui hidup dengan aman damai. and kita mmg naturally akan jadi hamba yang baik. kita akan jadi good humanitarian. kita akan buat bende2 yang baik. kita akan belajar sungguh sungguh dan kerja sungguh2....kita akan MERENDAH DIRI. BERSYUKUR YANG ALLAH BAGI NIKMAT AKAL YANG BAIK. dan tak mendabik dada, aku sorang betul org lain salah.
sumer bende qualities baik yang diajar oleh barat, sumer ada dalam kita. mmg patut SIFAT kita.
