• Team officials say absences were a precautionary measure
Germany's Lukas Podolski and Mesut Ozil have missed a Germany training session two days before the team are due to play Argentina in the World Cup quarter-finals.
Team officials say the players missed training on Thursday morning as a precautionary measure. Podolski broke off training on Wednesday, complaining about a minor muscle problem while playmaker Ozil remained in the team hotel, feeling unwell. Neither are expected to miss the match in Cape Town.
The striker Cacau also missed the session because of a right thigh injury. He has not trained for the past two days and is doubtful for Saturday's match.
Yesterday the midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger warned his team-mates they must beware Argentina's attempts to provoke them, saying: "It starts before the match. If you see how they gesticulate, how they try to influence the referee. That is not part of the game. That is a lack of respect." |
