Not in use: The school canteen has been closed while non-Muslim pupils ate in the changing room in SK Seri Pristana in Sungai Buloh.

SUNGAI BULOH: When we arrived, the dining tables and chairs were still there at the girls changing room of SK Seri Pristana, where non-Muslim pupils had been having breakfast and lunch over the past week,

As we entered the school grounds at about 6pm yesterday, the headmaster and the head of the Parent-Teacher Association looked distressed as officers from various government departments questioned them repeatedly on why the pupils had been moved to the changing room.

They showed us the changing room which was very clean at the time.

Two tables with purple tablecloths were placed in the small space next to the shower stalls and the sinks, with benches for the pupils to sit on.

The canteen, which was directly opposite the changing room, was re-opened to the pupils yesterday on the directive of the Education Ministry.

There are three shower stalls and three sinks in the room, which is right next to the girls toilet and the toilet for handicapped pupils.

According to the school officials, there are only 28 non-Muslim pupils in the school.

Headmaster Mohd Nasir Mohd Noor said the pupils, both Muslims and non-Muslims, had been using the changing room since March because there was not enough space in the canteen.

“Our enrolment increased by more than 500 pupils this year. We do not even have enough classrooms. We have an average of 49 pupils in each class now,” said the visibly worried headmaster who had to answer his cell phone every few minutes.

“I only decided to move them into that room because many were sitting on the grass or by the drain to eat because there was not enough space.”

He said the canteen had been closed over the past week due to a minor “renovation”.

Mohd Nasir brought us into the canteen to show us the newly-installed glass doors at a small corner of the canteen.

The renovation was completed over the weekend, he said.

“The canteen was supposed to have been re-opened on Monday. I did not know that it was kept closed. I was away for a meeting that day,” Mohd Nasir said.

The head of the school’s Parent-Teacher Association Hussein Mohd Ariff said that the PTA members were aware of the situation as it had been brought up at the AGM.

“As a parent, I know it was not ideal but the decision was not up to me,” he said.

The headmaster stressed that he would never discriminate against his pupils.

“As you can see, the shower room is very clean. The only reason I chose this place is because it is the closest room to the canteen.

“I did not mean any harm to the pupils,” he said, adding that he had not received any complaints from parents until yesterday.

As we spoke, parents were walking into the school to check on their children after seeing the photos and comments in the social network.

“I suspected something was wrong when another parent told me the children were eating in a changing room,” said a parent.

“I asked my daughter, who is only nine, and she told me that the place where she was eating was narrow and smelly.”

kan.....  maybe derang betul dan kementrian pressured wat tindakan..but to me orang tak kan komplain kalau kantin tu sesuai......btw kantin kenapa lambat siap erk? dan apasal signboard tu tulis tandas kalau ia changing room.....TANDAS tak sama dengan BILIK PERSALINAN kan dah misunderstood...tukar atau buka ler signboard tu kalau ya pon...TT pon kena tukar tajuk tread...kan ramai dah sentap Lol

kalo umah guru besar baghal ni dapurnya tgh renovate..tpt makan pun tak leh guna..yg ada hanya bilik ...

mana ur brainlah makan dalam bilik persalinan kata makan dalam bilik mandi...sedangkan dalam gambo tu dah jelas cikgu tu makan kat meja dalam bilik persalinan bukan makan  dalam bilik mandi yang ada shower tu...

Opps kalu mengikut artikel di atas bilik tu memang sebelah tandas pompuan lah....bukan biilik persalinan di sebelah bilik persalinan keadahnya......... minor renovation ambik masa 2 minggu....what a bull....lagi pon i tengok kantin tu luas....spare some area lah tuk budak2 tu.......nak tukar glass door pon tutup kantin ker?? Tak lojik sungguh....GB sangat nervous sekarang...kasihan....

Update (5.45am): Malay men having some kind of berbuka puasa (looks like) in the same Seri Pristina ‘canteen’.
With this revelation, I hope that the Dapsters bashing the Malays will ease off a bit on the race factor.

1. Blogger Dhanyaraam who visited Sekolah Kebangsaan Pristina yesterday reported that until the start of fasting month, Malay pupils had also been using the shower room as their ‘canteen’ as well.
2. The rooms marked tandas-tandas are the left and right in the photograph below which is uploaded in Dhanyaraam’s blog entry, ‘Canteen In Changing Room , FACTS That You Should Know‘.
In the viral photos circulated yesterday, we had seen the interior of the left-side room – the one with the shower(s) – HERE.

It is where the Indian pupils were eating during recess.
3. In the photos Facebooked by a parent of one of the affected pupils, the door of one shower cubicle could be seen ajar. The doors of two other cubicles were closed and we can’t ascertain from the photos whether those cubicles contained showers or flush toilets.
The room on the right (in Dhanyaraam’s photo above) looks like where the Muslim children ambil wuduk.

Against the backdrop of our escalating race and religious tensions, this confrontational approach is potentially explosive.
6. True to form, politicians who love exploiting sensitive issues like the Speaker of Selangor have already capitalized on the opportunity (see Hannah Yeoh’s tweet on the school, below).

Canteen arrangement during puasa month7. According to the blogger Dhanyaraam, the school principal had explained the reason for the eating tables and chairs being placed there, i.e. due to the water supply (wash basins) facility.
While the principal Mohamad Nasir Mohd Nor has shed some light on the inexplicable use of the ‘tandas’ as a makeshift dining area, another question still hangs in the air.
As Dhanyaraam has rightly pointed out:

Why did SK Seri Pristina close its canteen during Ramadan? Don’t the non-Muslim pupils need to eat?

Or in other words, the canteen should have been kept open for the sprinkling of non-Muslim pupils even if the regular Muslim food caterers are not operating throughout the fasting period.

8. Seri Pristina is a school with a big enrolment.
However in keeping with the salient feature of the Sekolah Kebangsaan nationwide, it has only a very, very small number of non-Malay students. Therein lies the root of the problem of the needs of the minorities casually shunted aside.

10. There will be a media circus in the school today for sure.

Terima kasih kepada semua pembaca saya muliakan. Sumber saya berada di SRK Sri Pristana, Sungai Buloh, Selangor tengahari tadi.


Setelah saya paparkan entri terdahulu, klik di sini, sebilangan pembaca melontarkan pandangan mereka hanya  berasaskan TANGGAPAN  bukan FAKTA.  Pada awalnya, saya hanya ingin memperbetulkan fakta ditulis oleh blogger pro pembangkang,  BILIK AIR dan BILIK PERSALINAN, dua premis berbeza.

Pada masa sama, saya TIDAK langsung melontarkan pandangan berhubung  status keselesaan  bilik persalinan digunakan sebagai tempat makan pelajar sekolah sejak kira-kira 4 bulan lalu. Oleh itu USAH mencatatkan komen berlandaskan TANGGAPAN.


Apapun, izinkan saya berkongsi beberapa gambar dirakamkan di sekolah sama untuk menjelaskan kepada mereka terkeliru.


"Sekolah ini mempunyai 1,373 pelajar dan saiz kantin terkini tidak mampu menampung kesemua pelajar pada satu satu masa. Bermula pada bulan Mac 2013, BILIK PERSALINAN pelajar perempuan (BUKAN bilik air)  telah dinaiktaraf dan dijadikan tempat makan pelajar apabila kantin sekolah  penuh," ujar sumber.

"Ada ke shower di dalam bilik persalinan itu sehingga boleh menjadikan suasana lembab dan berbau?," tanya saya.

"Shower heads telah diterbalikkan. Pelajar hanya dibenar menggunakan sinki sahaja untuk membasuh tangan selepas makan. Ruang itu dijaga bersih dan berbau wangi.  Sebelum bulan puasa, setiap kali  kantin sekolah  'melimpah',  selain daripada pelajar India dan Cina,  pelajar Melayu juga menggunakan ruang sama  sebagai tempat makan dan minum," katanya.

"Ada ke kebaragkalian pelajar kencing di dalam BILIK PERSALINAN itu lalu menjadikan ruang itu tidak sesuai untuk pelajar makan?," tanya saya lagi.


"Memang pihak sekolah melekatkan kertas sebagai tanda peringatan di pintu. Shower juga tidak beroperasi.  Jadi tiada pelajar kencing di dalam ruang makan itu," jelasnya.

Saya dimaklumkan TIADA wartawan media elektronik dan cetak dibenarkan memasuki kawasan sekolah. Di peringkat negeri, kenyataan rasmi hanya boleh dikeluarkan oleh Pengarah Pendidikan Selangor selain daripada menteri.


"Mengapakah pelajar tidak makan di dalam kelas? Atau dibinakan kanopi untuk mereka berteduh buat sementara waktu?," soalan saya menyusul.


"Mengikit peraturan di sekolah, pelajar dilarang makan di dalam kelas. Pembinaan kanopi pula pastinya akan membabitkan kos tertentu," jawab sumber tenang.


Terkini, Timbalan Menteri Pendidikan dilapor telah mengarahkan operasi ruang makan itu dihentikan dengan serta-merta.


"Kerja menggantikan pintu kantin sekolah dijalankan di antara 19  dan 23 Julai sahaja. Selepas ini, esok 24 Julai, semua pelajar bukan beragama Islam akan menggunakan kembali kantin seperti biasa," tambah sumber saya lagi.


Apapun, FAKTA tetap FAKTA.


Bilik air dan bilik persalinan, BERBEZA. Kita boleh kencing di bilik air kerana ada mangkuk tandas tetapi tidak  di bilik persalinan. Tambahan pula selepas kemudahan untuk mandi diberhentikan.  LEBIH penting, jangan kencing orang secara keterlaluan. Usah mempolitikkan isu  sedangkan jalan penyelesaian mampu digarap.

sejak sebelum bulan ramadhan lagi mmg budak2 muslim n non muslim mmg dah makan kat situ pn..so kenapa skang mesti timbulkan isu perkauman plak..menyampah la aku dgn benda2 bodoh mcm ni..makan je lah kat situ, bukan kotor pn..mcm lah takpnah makan kat hotel yg kat sebelahnya ada toilet..bukannya ada letak jamban kat dlm changing room tu pun..
