Five intriguing facts pilots often don't tell passengers:
1. *Autopilot does most of the flight*: On long flights, the autopilot controls most of the trip. Pilots are primarily responsible for take-off, landing and monitoring.
2. *Turbulence is rarely dangerous*: While uncomfortable, turbulence is usually not dangerous. Planes are designed to operate and pilots are trained to navigate safely.
3. *Oxygen masks have a limited supply*: In an emergency, the masks only provide oxygen for 12 to 15 minutes, enough for the pilot to descend to a safe altitude.
4. *Pilots Don't Eat The Same Food As Passengers*: To avoid food poisoning, pilots are given different meals than passengers and each other.
5. *Flights are often shorter than scheduled*: Airlines add extra time to flights to ensure they arrive on time or early, even with delays.
