INTER BEAT FIORENTINA 3-2
Sunday, 20 March 2005 17:13:58

MILAN - Goals from South American trio Cambiasso, Veron and Cordoba saw Inter follow up Tuesday's Champions League victory over Porto with a 3-2 win at home to Fiorentina on Sunday afternoon which consolidates third spot in the Serie A standings.

The Nerazzurri were rarely troubled by a technically inferior Fiorentina side in the opening forty-five and Esteban Cambiasso opened the scoring shortly before the half-hour with a sweet volley past Serie A debutant Cejas after Ujfalusi intercepted Cruz and half-cleared.

Five minutes before the break the Viola equalised with Inter momentarily down to ten men after an injury to Adriano, Pazzini finding the bottom right-hand corner with a shot on the turn from inside the area.

Juan Sebastian Veron restored Inter's lead early in the second half with a half-volley into the top right-hand corner after an Ivan Cordoba touch-back, then was denied a second when Cejas pulled off a tremendous save from his powerful 20-yard shot.

Cordoba gave Mancini's men a seemingly unassailable lead on 65 minutes, stealing in at the near post to guide home a header from Mihajlovic's right-wing corner. But the Colombian gave the visitors a lifeline five minutes from time, turning a Nakata cross-shot into his own net from close range to set up a nervous finale from a Nerazzurri point of view which saw Nakata and Cruz have shots saved by Toldo and Cejas.

INTER 3-2 FIORENTINA (HT: 1-1)

Scorers: Cambiasso 27, Pazzini 40, Veron 53, Cordoba 65, (og) 86

INTER: 1 Toldo, 2 Cordoba, 4 J. Zanetti , 7 van der Meyde (5 Emre 83), 9 Cruz, 10 Adriano (30 Martins 43), 11 Mihajlovic, 14 Veron, 16 Favalli, 18 Kily Gonz醠ez (C.Zanetti 68), 19 Cambiasso
Subs not used: 15 Carini, 13 Z

Reds Tracking Vieri-Report
3/26/2005 2:34:00 PM

Premiership giants Liverpool are set to meet the Inter management in the next weeks to discuss a possible transfer of Christian Vieri to Anfield Road, reports Italian daily Il Corriere dello Sport.

Vieri's contract with the Nerazzurri expires in June 2006, and the Inter management don't appear keen on extending it given his 32 years of age.

On their part Liverpool are looking for a true goal-bagger to flank next to Fernando Morientes.

Vieri is both fluent in English and Spanish, and therefore wouldn't have problems merging into Benitez's Spanish flavoured Liverpool.

Atletico Madrid are also very interested in signing Vieri, who played a fantastic one year stint with Colchoneros back in the late 1990's.

if this rumour is true,i'll be glad to see it happens..

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: AC MILAN 2 INTER 0
Wednesday, 06 April 2005 22:45:21

MILAN - AC Milan beat Inter 2-0 in Wednesday's Uefa Champions League quarter-final first leg at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium thanks to goals in each half from Jaap Stam and Andriy Shevchenko.

A string of saves by Dida in a Nerazzurri-dominated first half denied Mihajlovic and Veron from long-range free kicks, and Cruz, who went close to scoring with a crisp shot from inside the box on 44 minutes. But in added time Jaap Stam outjumped Ivan Cordoba to Pirlo's outswinging free kick and headed home to put the Rossoneri in front from their first attempt on goal.

Shevchenko celebrated his return from injury by increasing Milan's lead in the 29th minute of an evenly-balanced second half with a close-range header from another Pirlo free kick. Inter's best chance of reducing the deficit ahead of next Tuesday's return leg fell to substitute Giorgos Karagounis, who hit the post with a half-volley from a tight angle two minutes from full time.

AC MILAN 2-0 INTER (HT 1-0)

Scorers: Stam 45+1, Shevchenko 74

AC MILAN: 1 Dida, 2 Cafu (5 Costacurta 90+2), 3 Maldini, 7 Shevchenko, 8 Gattuso, 11 Crespo (23 Ambrosini 84), 13 Nesta (4 Kaladze 71), 20 Seedorf, 21 Pirlo, 22 Kak
