The Spanish royal family soaked up the local sights with a visit to the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range
King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain took their two daughters out to explore the local surroundings while on holiday in Majorca.
The royal couple, who returned to the Balearic island for the first time as king and queen since they ascended the throne in June, headed to the beautiful Serra de Tramuntana mountain range – a UNESCO world heritage site.
Taking a guided tour around the Raixa country mansion, which has parts dating back to the 13th century and is set in the foothills of the mountains, Leonor, Princess of Asturias and her younger sister Princess Sofía showed great interest in the visit.
Eight-year-old Leonor, who will one day be queen of Spain, surprised onlookers when she asked, "Where is Marivent?" referring to the royal family's palace in Majorca as she scanned a map of the island.
The youngsters were taught about the natural landscape of Tramuntana, which was named an area of great physical and cultural significance in 2011, and learnt about the different types of rock formations.
They were also shown a map of the zone affected by a fire that broke out last summer, and after the tour, Felipe and Letizia set an example to their daughters by greeting local volunteers who had helped in the reforestation of the area.
