Hopefully, he would surprise his fans by doing something like this in his forthcoming ' Family' opposite Amitabh Bachchan.

Salman in Rajsree again

Salman Khan has been maintaining a very cordial relationship with Rajshree Films, the one that made Salman Khan a star through its productions -- 'Maine Pyar Kiya' and 'Hum Aapke Hain Kaun'. However, he was missing in its 'Mein Prem Ki Diwani Hoon' It seems that its former patron realized its mistake and took him in its forthcoming though still untitled movie. Moreover, Salman is playing the lead role in this film. Besides, sources close to Salman say that Salu would soon act as hero in an English movie of Puneet Issar in the company of galaxy of foreign artistes.

Aamir - Kajol pair in Kunal's next

Director Kunal Kohli has been very excited these days as he considers himself very lucky because his favorite pair of Aamir Khan and Kajol has finally agreed to act in his forthcoming film. The title of the movie is yet to be decided. Kunal is all the more thrilled as this pair has been his first choice and both of them have signed to do his film though they took some time in arriving at this decision. Now the ball is in Kunal's court and he has to prove his worth. " It is up to me now to live up to their confidence." According to Kohli, this movie is going to be a mature love story, and will be made under the banner of Yash Raj Films. Kunal is yet to finalize the rest of the cast. However, he is fully confident of starting the shooting early next year.

Sanjay's professional attitude

Generally, Sanjay Kapoor is not considered to be an action hero in the industry. But in his forthcoming film 'Kab Takk' he would be seen giving action shots. During the shooting of one action scene of this film he met with an accident and was rushed to hospital. After first aid and few stitches he again headed to sets to complete his shot without going home. This professional attitude of this struggling actor has created a number of fans for him in the industry.

DINO MOREA NOT TO BLAME FOR FLOPS

Dino Morea's first film 'Raaz' was a hit. However, none of his films hit the box office later. But Dino is not to blame for this. Though this model-turned-actor had given better performance in all his films even after 'Raaz', none of them met with success because of some other flaws. Some films flopped because of weak scripts and in some cases weak direction proved a barrier. Some films faced monetary problems. It is a general notion in the industry that those who come from the modeling industry do not stand up to the mark in acting in Bollywood. But Dino has proved it wrong.

Dino likes to perform in action roles whereas the directors offered him romantic roles only. It is said that Dino got romantic roles in the beginning of his career because of his affair with dusky Bengal beauty Bipasa Basu. After 'Raaz' Dino's chemistry with Bips did not prove attractive for the audience. Besides, the directors also failed in finding any other girl in the industry opposite Dino to project as a hot pair. Dino is more cautious about his roles and doesn't want to work in B grade films. He has understood that B grade films bring instant success but that does not last long. Now, Dino is waiting for a role, which could be a memorable one for the audience.  

SAIF INSISTS ON DETAILS IN FILM OFFERS

It seems that after 'Kal Ho Naa Ho' Saif Ali Khan has been improving his acting talent. After a long struggle in the industry he was able to give the solo hit 'Hum Tum'. The series of successful movies like 'Dil Chahta Hai', 'Kal Ho Naa Ho' and 'Hum Tum' changed the path of his career. In 'LoC Kargil' he was able to stand out of the crowd of the heroes in the role of Captain Anuj Nayar. Now, the producers and the directors are counting him in the group of creamy class actors. Saif is now ready to make experiment in the challenging roles and has become the role model for the young audience.

He has become more serious about his roles in films, and seeks details about the film when any offer comes for a new film. He even goes through the script minutely and then studies the story thoroughly. He also finds out about the director, it is said. While Saif is excited that his mother Sharmila Tagore has become chairperson of the Censor Board, he feels the pain of a split with his wife Amrita, who has been living separately from him. Both had led a very happy family life for about 12 years after their marriage.

PREITY FLIRTING WITH A FOREIGNER?

It seems that in the glamour world of Bollywood the more you become successful, the more will be the gossip about you. Nowadays, Preity Zinta is considered to be the number one heroine of the Hindi movie industry. So she becomes a soft target of the media. Stories about her affair have been circulating. After 'Dil Chahta Hai' her name was associated with Aamir Khan. She was said to be responsible even for the split between Aamir and his wife. Preity's relation with Aamir was nothing more than just friendship.

Later Preity was named even for the break- up between Saif Ali Khan and his wife Amrita. But Saif made it clear that his affair with an Italian girl was the main cause of break-up. However, now Preity is often seen with a foreign friend. Recently, she had come to the music release function of her new film with this friend. Preity's this friend is none other than James Foster, the CEO of a Delhi-based multinational company. Only a few days ago she had booked a theatre in Mumbai to watch 'Murder' with this friend. BEE QUEEN OF BACHCHAN FAMILY?

It is said that Rani Mukherjee is getting ready to be the bee queen of the Bachchan family. After all Rani has already acted in movies with all the stars in the Bachchan family---Jaya, Amitabh and their son Abhishek. She has also won the heart of her might - be mother-in-law Jaya Bachchan. Moreover, Jaya has found all the qualities of a nice bahu in Rani. She is awaiting an opportunity to bring her home at her earliest though after marring her son with Rani. Incidentally,

Jaya tried this in the reel life too. In the movie titled 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Ghum' Jaya and Amitabh wished to make Rani their daugher-in-law though in vain. Their reel son Shah Rukh marries with Kajol instead of Rani. Interestingly, Rani Mukherjee has been working with the Bachchan family in some movies even at present. Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Black' is one of them, where she is acting with Big B. She is also acting with Abhishek in 'Bunty Aur Babli'.

Both Abhishek and Rani are busy in shooting for this movie. Hopefully this will not remain a gossip and may turn out true in the real lives of Abhishek and Rani Mukherjee. Besides, Rani has already denied all gossips in the media about her affair with actor- turned- politician Govinda.

Akshay turns a cook in 'Family'
   
Actor Akshay Kumar was known as an action star in the industry in the beginning of his career. But he has readied himself now to perform all kinds of roles. His role of an obedient son in 'Dhadkan' coupled with the comedy character in 'Hera Pheri' has proved his credentials for all aspects of films. He is well known in the movie world for his cooperation with the producers as well as the directors. As a result, most of them are ready to sign Akshay for new films. Akshay is working in Kesu Ramsey's 'Family'. Raj Kumar Santoshi is directing it. In this film, Akshay is playing the role of a cook while Amitabh Bachchan plays that of a don once again. Raj Kumar Santoshi has not signed any heroine opposite Akshay for this film till now. But it is said in industry circles that either Aishwarya Rai or Rani Mukherjee might be signed for it. This is to recall that superstar Rajesh Khanna had played the role of a cook 'Bawarchee' in 1970s. How far Akshay as cook attracts the audience is yet to be seen.

IS MAHIMA GOING TO MARRY?

Mahima Chaudhary, a girl hailing from Meerut of Uttar Pradesh, was picked up from Delhi by Subhash Ghai for his 'Pardes'. He made her a Bollywood heroine out of a small town girl by his sheer direction and guidance. Subhash Ghai is known for it in the industry. Now, Mahima has acted in several films and added glory to her career. However, she has not risen to the extent she could have by virtue of her beauty and acquired talent. She has neither got big banner films like her contemporaries---Rani Mukherjee or Kareena Kapoor.

It is said that she has tried to keep her debut movie image of Ganga in 'Pardes', and has not exploited her body. So she has been left behind sexy girls like Bipasha Basu, Priyanka Chopra, Mallika Sherawat and Neha Dhupia though she has by now changed her style and dresses a lot befitting the current filmi style. She has been unlucky in her love too and lost her long cherished boyfriend Leander Peas. Frustrated in love and unable to exploit her skin, Mahima Chaudhry has now decided to get married like her other colleagues---Karisma, Raveena and Sonali Bendre and also turn her film career towards art and crossover films.

Shilpa Shetty has an ambition to act opposite young heroes. She told this to a producer who called on her for signing his movie. However, Shilpa Shetty proposed to the producer that she would sign his movie if he signs Imraan Hashmi for it. The industry wonders that even if Hashmi agrees to act opposite her, will the viewers appreciate the movie. After all, Imraan Hashmi is several years younger to Shilpa.

INTERVIEW: SUNIL SHETTY

Sunil Shetty has had several releases this year and his career seems to have stabilized. Following the release of his Dhadkan, the actor is in a happy mood...

Q: Are you satisfied with the way your career has shaped up?

So far so good, I can't complain. I think my career is just about starting now. I've managed some good films of late.

Q: But you got a lot of flak for 'Krodh'!

The film got flak. It doesn't matter. It was a small town film. I'm an actor and I did my bit. The audience appreciated that character. What the critics say does not matter to the producer. Critics have taken it that their job is to criticize; whereas I believe that a critic's job is to analyze the film, mark its plus and minus points with fairness. But the job is not being done that way.

Q: It is felt that there is no need for you to do these kinds of films any more!

I'm someone who believes in relationships, friendships and people who've stood by me. Come what may, I do any kind of work for them. I'm not a manipulative guy, I could have done that after 'Mohra' itself; saying no to all the films and returning their signing amounts. But I did as many as twenty films with new directors. I work on an emotional note, and for me, those who've stood by through thick and thin mean a lot.

Q: Akshay Kumar was given more prominence in the promos of 'Hera Pheri'. Did you feel that way too?

Yes, I felt so too. Akshay was the glamorous part of 'Hera Pheri'. I had worn glasses, torn shirt, torn trousers. That look wouldn't have helped the film. But eventually they also regretted that decision because it didn't help in pulling a great opening for the film. Ultimately it's the subject of the film that matters.

Q: Is it true that you are promoting Mahima Chaudhary?

According to me, it is gossip, so let's forget it. I need promotion for myself right now so where's the question of promoting somebody else?

Q: You had no heroine opposite you in both your recent releases 'Jungle' and 'Refugee'? Comment.

My character in 'Jungle' was that of a commando- one aim, one mission. A heroine didn't fit into that character. In 'Refugee', I am in love with Kareena. So what if it's unrequited love?

Q: Were you worried about playing a Pakistani in 'Refugee'?

I don't believe in dividing Hindus and Muslims and all that crap. I'm someone who believes that if I could work as an ambassador for my country and bring people together, it would be great. 'Refugee' is about human relations, not about India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. It's a positive character. I do belong to the J. P. Dutta family and J.P. knows how to take care of Sunil Shetty.

Q: It is said that you are harassing Sanjay Khanna by not giving him dates for completion of his film 'Ittefaq'?

The film should be complete and due for release soon. It's a decent film; in fact, it's a good film. It will work. Let the rumours remain rumours. If the producer, or director throws these allegations at me, then I have an answer for it. For every question, I have an answer, but since it's a rumour, let it remain one.

Q: Tell us a little about Rama Naidu's 'Aaghaaz'?

It's a routine subject but treated well. The story of a small-town guy coming to the city. He tries to help people but when it comes to him, he does not get any help. He's even beaten up but unlike other films that I've done, he does not take the route of becoming a Rambo and hitting the streets! Instead, he does the reverse! That is something that has to be seen on screen. I can recall a lovely court scene, the whole approach is so different, and it's never been there in a film before.

Q: Finally, how nervous are you about 'Dhadkan'?

It's releasing on my birthday, so I hope I have all the luck! (Smiles) Even otherwise, it's a very special film for me. It's shaped up well and without sounding arrogant; I may add that I've done really well for myself. It's a love triangle that has been handled with emotion, passion and sincerity. Even the music is nice. Yeah, I'm nervous all right!

INTERVIEW WITH HRITHIK ROSHAN

The fan mail is overflowing. It's 2,000 letters by post a day and e-mail that causes the server to jam. All this is surprising, but what takes the cake is the Indian Prime Minister's invitation to spend a day with him and his foster grand-daughter. That's right ! Atal Behari Vajpayee wants Hrithik Roshan to spend a whole day in Delhi with him and his little Neha.

Needless to add that such invitations come only to a privileged few. It's an indicator of how the young starson's graph is climbing upwards. With his debut film Kaho Na Pyaar Hai (KNPH) a runaway success, Hrithik has beaten all his contemporaries hollow.

Wait a minute. Hrithik with all his female fan-following, does not want to be called a sex symbol, a Greek God being chased by millions of damsels in the country. He would rather be known for his versatile acting abilities. In a candid interview with Rangbhumi, Hrithik says the inspiration in his life comes from none other than his father Rakesh Roshan who has worked hard to groom him in the last couple of years.

Q: How does your wife, Suzanne like the large female fan-following that you enjoy ?

A: Well, she's happy that she chose somebody who is popular in the country today, amongst men and women both. She is equally proud that women think I am good-looking. For Suzanne, it's a feather in the cap. She is proud, not jealous.

Q: How do you explain this Hrithik-mania that has hit the country with your debut film Kaho Na Pyaar Hai?

A: I think that this craze or mania is because of the success of KNPH. If it perpetuates after the release of four-five more films of mine, then only will I consider it to be a craze for me as a person, as an actor. Otherwise not.

Q: You are being seen as the appropriate "lover-boy", the handsome hunk of Hindi cinema and the image may stick to you. Would you like this?

A: I cannot decide the image that goes down in the minds of the people about me. But, like every good actor I also do not want to get caught in any one image. This is the reason that I am trying to sign films with different storylines and ones that will give me the opportunity to prove that I am a good actor. I have already signed diverse films that will supposedly break the lover-boy image.

Q: What are your next few films?

A: Yaadein is a romantic love-story, Fiza which has just been released is a very touching emotional story between a brother and a sister, Mission Kashmir is an altogether different storyline厖卼hey're all miles apart, no repetitions.

Q: Who decides on which films you should sign and which you should not?

A: I decide on my own, but I feel the best decisions are those that I take along with my dad. He has the experience and the vision to be able to guide me best. And he spends every minute of his time to better my acting talents and my future.

Q: Abhiskek Bachhan is being seen as your prime competitor. How do you like that ?

A: I don't like it in the least. Abhishek and I have been close friends since childhood. I do not want the relationship to be spoilt and we are not competitors. There is enough room in the industry for all of us to grow. Abhishek has done a marvellous job in Refugee and I can guarantee that he is the superstar of the future.

Q: is it true that you are being cast in the next RK banner film along with Abhiskek Bachhan ?

A: Right now, even their script is not complete, so there is no question of any decision on who all are going to be cast for the film. RK Films is one of the oldest and most respectable banners in the industry. I would love to be cast in their next project. As far as Abhishek is concerned, he is a good friend of mine, a fine man and a good actor. So, anyway, I will be happy if we are together in any production.

Q: Do you believe in fate?

A: Yes, I do. There is definitely a supreme guiding force that takes charge of each one of us at the end of the day. There is destiny. My belief is reinstated after the success of my debut film KNPH. Who thought that I would be a star with my first film. That's fate. But I do believe that fate does not mean that you wait for success and do no karma. You must do your best and fate will hold in store for you exactly what you deserve.

Q: What is your father's next production?

A: My dad has registered the title "Crorepati". So that should logically be his next film. But I have no clue to what the film has in store for the public. It is yet in the scripting stage. My dad never takes a film to the sets until the script is final. I know that it would be the year-end by the time it goes to the sets.

RAVEENA ALL SET TO WORK WITH KAMAL HAASAN

The day I met her on the sets of director Raakesh Mehra's film AKS, Raveena Tandon was very excited. After a big lull in her career after the jinxed Akshay Kumar phase, her career her career graph once again seems slated for am upswing. What's more, she has bagged the choicest of banners like that of Kalpana Lajmi, Tanujaa Chandra and Aruna Raje in her kitty.

In this free-wheeling interview, Raveena talks to us about her latest film Daman, Aruna Raje's film Khajuraho, Kamal Haasan's film Aalavandhan and the way her career is taking shape.

Q How is your career shaping?

A Come to think of it, I think I have reached a point in my career where I feel like experimenting with roles that excite me. I have had a very wide range as an actress among all my contemporaries. Among the films I am working currently on are Raakesh Mehra's film AKS; Harmesh Malhotra's Akhiyon se Goli Maaro,Tanuja Chandra next film with Aftaab and Jackie, Kundan Shah's Kasam Se, Tinu Anand's Ek Hindustan and Anees Bazxmi's Deewangi opposite Sanjay Dutt. My film Daman directed by Kalpana Lajmi is ready for an early release and Aruna Raje's Khajuraho has just been launched.

Q What is your role in Kalpana Lajmi's Daman?

A: In Daman I play a challenging role that of a docile housewife who is battered by her sex crazy husband. It was the kind of a role I had never played before in my film career. Kalpana explained to me every finer nuance of my character and it was easy for me to interpret the role accordingly. It was an entirely different experience - we were breathing our roles day and night with no break, right there in the middle of tea gardens in Assam surrounded by ULFA.

Q:How did you prepare yourself for the role in Daman?

A:Kalpana and the entire unit had a lot of research before the actual shooting began. In fact we had several brainstorming sessions to discuss the pros and cons of each and every role. Working with Kalpana was fun as she is an actress' delight and very respectful to suggestions from any of us. It is only once in a while that I get to do such deep and intensely satisfying roles like in 'Daman' . click for larger view
Q:What is your role in Khajuraho?

A Khajuraho is a very interesting film, which is more about war than love. It is about the bitterness in the land of love. I cannot divulge more about my role at the moment but all that I can say is that it has nothing to do with sex or for that matter murals. I am playing a very challenging role of the protagonist in the film along with Rani Mukerjee.

Q Who are the other artists in Khajuraho with you?

A: I am acting in Khajuraho along with Pooja Batra, Dipti Bhatnagar and Rani Mukerjee. I have been pitted opposite newcomer model Vikram Saluja.

Q:We believe your role in Kamala Haasan's new film is very challenging!

A: Yes, you bet. The film is being made in Tamil and Hindi and will be dubbed in Telegu too. I play an interesting role of a TV Reporter in this film. Aishwarya was the original choice for the role, which I am doing. She had opted out because of problems of dates. Kamal plays a cop in the film. Kamal and I uncover a series of gruesome killings of a psychopath in the film.

Q Do you have any qualms in accepting an Aishwarya- reject role?

A: I was not aware that Ash was offered the role earlier till I discussed the subject with Kamal. So what if I was a replacement, I couldn't do Arjun Pandit, which Juhi did. I was supposed to do Champion but then Manisha did it. Juhi was to do Shool but ultimately I did it.

She is the favorite of the industry's superstars like Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan. Her struggle, hard labor and constant effort to prove herself as a good actress have indeed given her the right place in the profession.

Shahid shares festivals with family

The budding actor Shahid Kapoor gives priority to family, and hardly goes for shooting on a festive day. He said this recently to the media on the occasion of the Diwali and Eid festivals. The most successful teenager of the tinsel town is proud to say, " I usually spend Holi, Diwali and Eid at home. Mom makes a great lunch on those days". Shahid Kapoor has begun his filmi career very well. He has already got a hit 'Ishq Vishk' followed by another successful movie 'Fida'. He claims that in such a brief period he has already worked with the who's who of the industry like Karan Johar and Satish Kaushik. He feels slighted when he is compared to king Khan. "Comparing me with Shah Rukh Khan is giving me more than my due." SRK has been in the profession for quite some time and he has entered films recently. But the way he is attracting the audience definitely goes in his favor.

Preity's fans disappointed

The heroine of the recently released 'Veer-Zaara' met with an accident. She was going to airport in Mumbai when a motorcycle rammed into her car. Though Preity was not hurt but she suffered a shock. So she canceled her flight to Kolkata, where she was to grace a function with her grace. Her fans waited for her in Kolkata wondering why she missed the flight when she was not hurt.

Santoshi's 'The Family' with Big B

Raj Kumar Santoshi has been trying to direct a movie with Big B. However, the luck doesn't favor him. Santoshi directed a movie titled 'Ranveer' but it never saw the light of the day. Now, he is directing another movie known as 'The Family' with Amitabh Bachchan. Santoshi says thatits story centers on a lofty idea of a battle between the good and the evil.Industry circles, however, wonder if Santoshi is trying to modify slightly his 'Ranveer' and giving it a fresh title. Santoshi has refuted this strongly and claimed that he has not abandoned 'Ranveer' and has rather deferred it. 'The Family' is being made under the Big B's A.B. Corp.

HRITHIK TO BANK ON HIS FATHER

Hrithik Roshan rocked the industry as a hero with his debut film 'Kaho Na Pyar Hai' produced by his father. After this film he had become the heartthrob of youngsters of India and was predicted as the superstar of future. With the silver jubilee of another film 'Koi Mil Gaya' produced by his father Rakesh Roshan, he was rated high by the audience. But his recent film 'Lakshya' directed by Farhan Akhtar did not do so well at the box office. After this flop Hrithik had rejected so many offers as he had expected this to be a hit like 'Koi Mil Gaya'.

But to his bad luck 'Lakshya' could not do average business even. Now, Hrithik has no film on hand. It was a great shock for Hrithik. So it is said that Farhan Akhtar's sister Joya Akhtar signed Saif Ali Khan opposite Tabu for her first film 'Luck by Chance'. It is also said that Joya made this film offer to Saif after consulting her brother Farhan. It seems that Hrithik will have to depend again on his father for a hit film to attain his position in the industry.
