Arshavin to leave Arsenal for Chelsea?
Andrey Arshavin could make a controversial switch across London to leave Arsenal to join Chelsea.
According to reports in The News of the World, Chelsea could be preparing an offer for the Russian, with word that Arshavin has become unsettled at the Emirates.
Despite chipping in with seven goals and leading the team's assists statistics, the Russian has been pillored by the Arsenal fans for a seeming lack of form, and has been relegated to warming the bench recently.
What is interesting is that Blues owner Roman Abramovich himself is close to the player, as both worked togther for Russia's successful 2018 World Cup bid recently.
With less than 18 months on his current contract, it was also reported that Arshavin's transfer fee could come up to £10 million, which would be a paltry fee for a player of his quality.
There are other suitors though, with the Russian's former club Zenit St Petersburg also casting covetous eyes on their ex-player.
Arsene Wenger has however, maintained his interest in keeping the player, saying: "He is going through a period that is a bit difficult at the moment, but he works very hard in training."
Althought negotiations have been ongoing at the Emirates, it could prove hard to reach an agreement, given Arsenal's policy of offering only one-year deals for players over 30.
The Arsenal boss has been negotiating a new contract with the Russian since July last year, but has failed to reach an agreement with the midfielder because of his policy of offering only one-year deals for players over 30.
