'능력자' 김종국, 2년여 만에 새 앨범 준비 돌입. '반전 목소리'로 아시아 접수하나?
'능력자' 김종국이 가수로 컴백을 준비 중이다.
SBS '런닝맨'을 통해 예능을 대표하는 한류스타로 급부상한 김종국이 2년여 만에 새 앨범을 발표하는 것. 소속사인 얼반웍스이엔티에 따르면 김종국은 내년 4월 신곡 발표를 목표로 최근 곡 수집 단계에 돌입했다.
김종국의 마지막 앨범은 지난 2012년 11월 발표한 정규 7집 '저니 홈(Journey Home)'으로 예정대로라면 2년 5개월 여만에 새 앨범을 발표하게 된다.
지난 2년 동안 김종국의 인기는 상상을 초월할 정도로 급부상했다. 특히 출연 중인 '런닝맨'이 아시아 각국에서 인기를 끌며 김종국은 '능력자'라는 닉네임으로 단숨에 한류 스타가 됐다.
예능인으로서의 인기는 중국에서 영화 출연으로까지 이어지고 있다. 중국판 '런닝맨'으로 불리는 '달려라 형제'의 극장판에 최근 주연으로 발탁된 것. 김종국은 저장위성TV '달려라 형제' 1화에 깜짝 게스트로 출연하여 남다른 예능감으로, 능력자의 존재감을 중국 대륙에 확실히 각인 시키며 한류 예능의 주역으로 자리매김 했었다. 이에 예능이 아닌 영화에서 김종국은 어떤 활약을 펼칠지 귀추가 주목되고 있다.
소속사 관계자는 "'달려라 형제' 극장판은 내년 중국 최대의 명절인 춘절에 맞춰 개봉될 예정이다. 처음에는 김종국의 출연 분량이 많지 않았지만 최근 김종국의 중국내 인기가 급격히 높아지며 영화 제작사 측에서 주연으로까지 분량을 대폭 늘렸다"고 전했다.
이런 가운데 김종국의 새 앨범 발표는 새로운 K-POP 스타의 탄생으로 이어질 전망이다. 김종국은 우직한 외모와는 상반되는 가느다랗고 달콤한 음색을 바탕으로 댄스와 팝 발라드를 자유자재로 넘나드는 보컬리스트로 많은 사랑을 받는 가수가 본업. 해외 팬들에게는 김종국의 이런 보컬적 매력이 많이 알려지지 않은 상황인 만큼, 새 앨범이 발표될 경우 김종국의 색다른 매력이 재조명 될 가능성이 크다.
소속사 관계자는 "새 앨범에는 김종국의 매력을 가장 잘 보여줄 수 있는 곡들을 위주로 채울 예정이다. 이미 김종국의 인기가 아시아 각국에서 최고를 찍고 있는만큼, 자연스럽게 새 앨범은 국내와 아시아 각국에서 동시에 프로모션이 진행될 전망이다"고 밝혔다.
김종국 역시 최근 가수로서의 활동 비중을 높이고 있다. 오는 12일과 14일에는 뉴욕과 댈러스에서 하하와 함께 '김종국 & 하하 런닝맨 형제 콘서트'를 열고 27일에는 중국 하얼빈에서 첫번째 단독 콘서트를 여는 것. 하얼빈을 시작으로 김종국은 2015년도 중국 콘서트를 시작한다.
예능인에 이어 배우로 그리고 다시 본업인 가수까지 다방면에서 매력을 발산하고 있는 '능력자' 김종국의 2015년은 더욱 분주하고 활기가 가득찰 전망이다.
