Champions League Preview: Villarreal朓nter Milan
Part two of this enthralling encounter unfolds at El Madrigal in Spain and if the first leg is anything to go by, we are in for an entertaining finale, come Tuesday night.
BACKGROUND
When the draw was made last month, many had predicted Inter to advance from this tie without breaking a major sweat. But the Spaniards showed in the San Siro, that they do possess the ammunition to make life difficult for the Nerazzurri. In fact, Villarreal were in dream land with the match not even a minute old when Diego Forlan pounced on Toldo抯 parry of Jose Mari抯 shot to earn his side a crucial away goal.
Inter did come storming back through goals from Adriano and Martins but the 2-1 scoreline sees the tie well balanced ahead of the second leg. Veron may have won his midfield duel with Riquelme but the latter certainly made his charismatic presence felt, having a free-kick come crashing off the cross bar and narrowly missing the target on another occasion. Another player who left his mark on the game was Inter抯 inspirational captain, Javier Zanetti, who was rightfully named 慚an of the Match |

Tacchi disappointed by Inter

Alessio Tacchinardi admits he expected much more of a challenge from Inter as his Villarreal moved into the Champions League semi-finals.
"We played the game of our lives and we proved on the field that we were better than Inter, as they hardly ever tested us," he said after the 1-0 win put the Spaniards through on away goals, 2-2 on aggregate.
"I think we wanted it more and gave it our heart and soul, while the Nerazzurri looked a little sluggish to me and I expected them to put more effort in.
"In all honesty, I was surprised to see Sinisa Mihajlovic replace Luis Figo. I think Inter will have a lot of problems from now on, as going out to underdogs like us will undoubtedly bring criticism down on them. Personally, I was very disappointed in their performance."
Former Juventus star Tacchinardi knows the Serie A giants and their weaknesses all too well, but even he was surprised by their sluggish display.
It was an historic night for Villarreal, though, who have reached the final four in their first ever Champions League campaign.
"We knew we had to defend well, as we expected to score at least one goal. In the Champions League we have always focused on defence and it has been effective.
"It's my first year in Spain and I am proud to be a part of this squad. For us, being in the final four is already like lifting the trophy.
Villarreal will face the winners of the Juventus-Arsenal tie in the semi-finals and the Italian international is looking for a trip to Highbury.
"I think facing my old club would be very hard for me, as it was already tough to come up against Inter, so I hope Arsenal go through."
Tacchinardi is still owned by Juve, but is eager to stay in Spain for another season and confirms rumours he could soon be teammates with Marco Materazzi.
"As for my future, I'm talking to Juventus at the moment and I admire Villarreal's ambition. Plus I live by the sea! I had lost my love of the game in my last year at Juve, but I've recaptured that here. The club is interested in Materazzi and had already talked about it when we were over for the first leg."
Materazzi hardly endeared himself to the Villarreal fans, as his elbow left Juan Pablo Sorin with a deep cut just above his eye.
"What happens on the field stays on the field," insisted ex-Lazio man Sorin. "It was an unfortunate move from him, but being in the semi-finals takes away some of the pain.
"The fight with Juan Sebastian Veron is the same as the Materazzi incident, as I think it ends there and we are fellow countrymen."
Sorin was a flop in Serie A, but has found his element in La Liga with Villarreal and reveals their game plan when taking on Inter.
"I think we played a great game and Inter sat back quite a lot, but we knew their strength was when pushing forward, so we kept them under constant pressure to stop them from playing.
"It's simply very exciting to be in the semi-finals and a dream come true. We feel like the belle of the ball, so whatever happens from now it'll be wonderful. I'm very proud of my team and the impression we have made on Europe." |

we have lost..and we are out..
susah nak terima hakikat nih..serius mmg aku tak expect kena 1-0 nih..koman2 pon draw..tapi nak wat camner..mmg takder rezeki inter..villareal mmg dasat pagi tadi..kalau tak pasal toldo,it could have been 3-0 or 4-0..
btul kata nesta13,inter main TAK MENARIK LANGUNG pagi tadi..sebelum match mancini ada kata yg inter takkan hanya mempertahankan kelebihan satu gol dan akan main seperti biasa..but apa dah jadi?WE ARE WORSE THAN HOW JUVE WERE AT HIGHBURY..we played CRAPPY futbol..and we deserve this..
aku rasa mancini turunkan miha just for set-piece situations..we struggled to create chances and just berharap pada set-pieces kut..
