napoli 4 - as roma 4

ROME, Oct 20 (Reuters) - A late Marcelo Zalayeta goal earned Napoli a thrilling 4-4 draw at AS Roma in Serie A on Saturday.

The visitors took the lead in the second minute when Zalayeta diverted a free kick to Argentine striker Ezequiel Lavezzi, who fired the ball into the top corner.

Roma hit back through captain Francesco Totti, who drilled home a penalty after Chilean midfielder David Pizarro was brought down. ADVERTISEMENT

Simone Perrotta then knocked in the rebound of a powerful Totti effort in the 41st minute, only for Napoli's Slovak midfielder Marek Hamsyk to level after the break.

Daniele De Rossi wrong-footed Napoli keeper Gennaro Iezzo with a 30-metre shot in the 52nd before Walter Gargano equalised with another long-range effort 12 minutes later.

The hosts thought they had clinched it when Pizarro blasted in a free kick in the 80th but Zalayeta's header six minutes from time gave Napoli a share of the spoils.

Roma are second in Serie A with 15 points, two behind leaders Inter Milan, who visit second-from-bottom Reggina later on Saturday.

Roma open door to Inter Milan's Adriano --- nk masuk roma plak...
tribalfooball.com - November 11, 2007

Roma could offer Adriano an escape route out of Inter Milan.

Adriano's agent, Gilmar Rinaldi, refused to rule out a move to the capital when asked about Roma's interest yesterday: "A loan to Roma? There's time enough ... if you like the destination."

Roma coach Luciano Spalletti expressed interest in Adriano 18 months ago and continues to admire the Brazilian, despite his off-field problems.

For his part, Adriano would welcome the chance of working with a coach famous for rebuilding players' careers.

The big stumbling block for any January deal will be Inter, which would prefer Adriano move abroad.

Roma Win As Panucci Turns Last Minute Hero Once Again                Genoa 0-1 Roma

Roma earned a crucial 1-0 away win against Genoa thanks to a last-gaspgoal by Christian Panucci, who was also the hero for Italy last weekagainst Scotland.

Roma were under pressure to get a result in this tough away tie as awin would have allowed them to reach Inter on top of the table, aheadof the Nerazzurri's easy-looking match tonight against Atalanta at SanSiro.

Genoa had lost just once at home, on the opening day of the seasonagainst Milan (0-3), so it was certainly wasn't going to be easy forLuciano Spalletti's boys.
This turned out to be the case, as only a last-minute goal byChristian Panucci, who's becoming something of a specialist in cruciallast-minute goals from dead ball situations, allowed Roma to take allthree points after a balanced match.

The Giallorossi lined up with a 4-2-3-1 formation with AmantinoMancini, David Pizarro, and Max Tonetto behind lone striker Mirkovucinic, while Genoa played in a 4-3-3 system with Giuseppe Sculli,Marco Borriello and Julio Leon.

The first chance of the match came after just six minutes, whenTonetto nearly got a touch on a low cross by Pizarro, but he could notcoordinate himself well enough to get to the ball.

Roma continued to be more dangerous, and in the 14th minute Vuciniccame close as he tried to turn in a cross by Marco Cassetti, but hecouldn't quite get it on target.

The first chance for Genoa came in the 29th minute, as Borriello wasfound by a pass from Ivan Juric, only to see his close-range effortparried away by goalkeeper Alexandre Doni.

There were no more major chances in the first half, although it was an entertaining and balanced match until that point.
The second half began without either side making any changes. In the48th minute, Borriello made himself dangerous again as he made animpressive run, but his eventual shot was blocked by Doni, beforemidfielder Daniele De Rossi cleared the ball away for a corner.
In the 56th minute De Rossi, who frequently tried his luck withshots from distance, found himself in a good position to shoot butcould not coordinate himself well and sent the ball wide.

A big chance came for Genoa in the 70th minute, as midfielder MatteoParo hit a powerful shot from outside the area that beat Doni, but theBrazilian goalkeeper was saved by the woodwork.

Roma responded five minutes later, as goalkeeper Rubinho came upwith a miraculous save on a header by Vucinic from a cross by Mancini. The ball came off the crossbar after Rubinho got his hand to it, andthen De Rossi tried to get to it but he was too late.
Both sides could have won it, and perhaps a draw would have been thefairest result. But there was going to be a winner after all.
It was the 90th minute when Pizarro sent in a free kick that foundPanucci all alone close to the goal, and he had no problems nodding theball in. With his qualification-clinching goal for the Azzurri in mind, which was quite similar to this one, the Genoa defence will rue nothaving paid more attention to the Italian international.

With this all-important win, Roma are now top of the table with 25points like Inter, who host Atalanta tonight. Genoa, meanwhile, are12th with 14 points.

Francesco Totti is already looking ahead to the last 16 of the Champions League and there is only one draw he wants to avoid.

Roma made certain of their place in the knockout stages with an emphatic 4-1 win over Dynamo Kiev

However, the Giallorossi can only finish second in Group F even if they upset Manchester United in their final fixture and could be facing a tough test in the next round.

揟o win the Champions League you have to meet almost everyone,
