Described by United's scouting department as “a stylish player consistent with the traditions and legacy of wide players at this club”, 21-year-old Tosic is already a regular in Serbia’s national team.

A winger who hugs the touchline and takes defenders on, he possesses silky dribbling skills and a strong left-foot shot. Renowned for his mastery in dead ball situations, Tosic is a real threat from set-pieces, whether firing goalwards or delivering pin-point crosses.

United scouts were watching the winger for over a year before he joined the Reds and in that time his progress took giant strides.

He appeared (and scored) for Partizan Belgrade in a Champions League qualifier against Fenerbahce in August 2008, not long after he returned from Serbia’s involvement at the Beijing Olympics. He also has UEFA Cup experience and is expected to play a big part in Serbia’s quest for 2010 World Cup qualification.

A United fan since childhood, Tosic grew up with posters of his heroes plastered on his bedroom walls in Zrenjanin. No doubt Ryan Giggs was one of those figures and, who knows, it could be Tosic who’s charged with filling the Welshman’s boots when Giggs eventually retires.

Evans: Owen still a class act

Manchester United defender Jonny Evans believes Michael Owen is proving at Old Trafford he remains a class act.

Owen, a surprise signing from Newcastle in the summer, scored his third goal of the season in the Carling Cup victory against Barnsley at Oakwell.

It was a clinical finish as he foxed goalkeeper Luke Steele after he made the most of a delightful ball from Fabio.

Whether Owen, who started on the bench in the defeat by Liverpool, can win a recall to the England squad remains to be seen.

But Evans has no doubts at all about his team-mate's quality and said: "Every time Michael comes on he gets into really good positions.

"He changed the game a bit for us on Sunday. It was the first time we really looked like getting in behind Liverpool.

"It was good for him against Barnsley to get another goal. It was a great finish from him. He made it look easy by passing the ball into the corner."

Evans is also predicting a bright future for 18-year-old striker Danny Welbeck, who opened the scoring in the fifth minute.

Welbeck came off in the second half and is having a scan on the knee injury he suffered.

Evans said: "Danny is improving all the time and learning from the first team lads.

"He is a fantastic talent and can go all the way. He is so hard to play against. He has great skill as well."

Despite his night ending on a sour note it could not dampen Welbeck's mood of elation at securing a place in the last eight of the competition.

Welbeck scored the winner against Wolves in the third round and was part of the United side that lifted the trophy last season when they defeated Tottenham.

He said: "It is great to get further in the cups. I'm already looking forward to the quarter-finals. We'll certainly enjoy it and do our best.

"We controlled the game against Barnsley in the second half. The youngsters did well and the experienced players in the team helped us massively."

Reds deserve last-eight place

Sir Alex Ferguson declared himself pleased following United's 2-0 Carling Cup fourth round victory over Barnsley at Oakwell.

Danny Welbeck and Michael Owen fired home either side of half time to send the Reds through to the last eight. The United boss was pleased with the performance of his young team, and felt his players were well worth the win.

"It was a real cup tie. Barnsley worked very hard and put a lot of effort into the game," Sir Alex said. "They had one or two chances when we went down to ten men, but in the end I think we deserved to get through."

As well as securing a passage to the quarter-finals, the boss believes the knowledge his youngsters gained away from home was just as invaluable.

Sir Alex said: "laying away from home in a cup tie is a completely different experience from playing at Old Trafford. Last year we had some good home draws and it was good experience for the lads."

One of those youngsters was Rafael who made his first appearance of the season. However, rather than slotting in at his usual right-back he started in the rather unfamiliar position of central midfield. According to Sir Alex, this was due to injuries.

"Darron Gibson was injured so we didn't have many options. Rafael trains with the first team all the time, he's a first team player, he's mobile and quick enough with good feet.

"He's good enough to play in there. We thought he was worth a try."

haha.. yelaa.. lupe plak, si rafael dah ok dah dari injed.. main tempat king fletcher.. cambestt je beliau main position ituu...
