Coleman: United for the title
Fulham boss Chris Coleman has tipped United for the title if the Reds can maintain the form they showed in their opening fixture at Old Trafford.
According to Coleman, United "steamrollered" the Cottagers in Sunday's 5-1 win, instigated by a whirlwind start to the match that saw Sir Alex Ferguson's side go 4-0 up in the opening 19 minutes.
Fulham, who had an appalling away record last season, produced a performance that is unlikely to prove United's most testing challenge this term. But United still needed to exploit the opportunity, which was at times absent last season.
"When United hit that form, you could be looking at the new champions," Coleman told Sky Sports. "They were devastating at times and, to be fair to our lads, we couldn't get anywhere near them.
"They steamrollered us. We couldn't get the ball and when we did get it we gave it back too easily," he added.
Coleman acknowledged that United's start to the match was the key to the victory.
"We got a lesson today," he added. "On that type of form, United are going to beat anybody. If they keep that up, I don't see anybody to touch them in possession. Offensively they were absolutely devastating and we couldn't live with them

Bayern threaten United with FIFA action
ERLIN, Aug 22 (Reuters) - Bayern Munich have threatened to report Manchester United to FIFA if they do not give up their pursuit of England midfielder Owen Hargreaves.
The German champions told the English club last week to cease all interest in the 25-year-old Hargreaves.
'Otherwise we will turn to FIFA,' Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told the Munich-based tz newspaper on Tuesday. 'A club may only contact a player when the club holding his contract agrees to it.'
United manager Alex Ferguson confirmed on Friday that he wanted to bring in Hargreaves, who could help fill the gap left by Roy Keane. Hargreaves himself has been quoted as saying he would like to move to United.
The midfielder has a contract with Bayern running until 2010.
Newspapers have speculated that United might be prepared to pay 25 million euros ($32.15 million) for a player who greatly enhanced his reputation during England's run to the World Cup quarter-finals.
Bayern said they left Hargreaves out of their squad for Sunday's 2-1 win over Bochum in the Bundesliga because of a bout of flu. He will miss Tuesday's friendly match against Barcelona at the Nou Camp for the same reason. |

WAYNE Rooney and Paul Scholes both miss Manchester United's trip to London to face Charlton as they start respective three-match bans.
Sir Alex Ferguson is hoping Ryan Giggs recovers from the heavy knock he took in the win over Fulham on Sunday, when skipper Gary Neville only completed 45 minutes.
Gabriel Heinze and Nemanja Vidic (both knee) are absent for the Red Devils, as are Michael Carrick (ankle) and Alan Smith, who did return to reserve-team action on Monday night after his double leg break.
The Reds will be determined to carry on the impressive form they showed in Sunday's 5-1 hammering of Fulham.
Charlton will be without Djimi Traore for the visit of United as the defender serves a one-match suspension.
